President Bola Tinubu has advised his Minister of Works, David Umahi, to ignore the criticisms surrounding the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project and concentrate on his given assignment.

According to the President, those criticising the road are ignorant of their utterances, urging them to explore alternative options if they think paying tolls to use the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be too expensive for them.

He made the remarks while speaking at the launch of the reconstruction of Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

"I bring to you, David, don't listen to those critics. They don't know what they're talking about," Tinubu said.

"If they don't like the road or if it's too expensive for tolling for them, they could go to Idumota.

"Our own is to affirm our commitment as an istration to deliver enduring infrastructure across our great nation. Forget all the misconceptions, you're a thinker and a doer, a great professional David. I'm very proud and honoured to have you in our team," he stated.

At the pace the job is going, it can't be finished in 5 years.

Delta to Akwa Ibom has very swampy areas and sandfillong some of those creeks alone will take time.

Let the President and his handlers learn to tolerate dissenting voices.

Still don't understand the rationale for embarking on this highly controversial and expensive coastal highway from Lagos to Calabar,
when we have a similar existing poorly maintained road that runs from Lagos-Ogun-Ondo-Benin-Warri-Bayelsa-Port Harcourt-Akwa Ibom-Calabar.

After 2years, only 30km out of 750km was ridiculously commissioned...

You don't want tax reforms

You don't want economic reforms

You don't want Dangote Refinery.

You don't want PH, Warri, Kaduna refineries

You don't want Lagos-Calabar highway

You hate Sokoto-Badagry express.

Even second Niger bridge, you were sad,

Train nko, you kept crying

You don't want improved GDP

What you want is "shambles"

What you want is bad news

All you pray for is bandit, BH and IPOB attacks

All you wish for is for people to die

All you like to hear is "Nigeria has happened to you"

Yet you go to church to pray for a miracle,

You go for Umrah and fast for your personal turnaround,

Sorry!

May PBAT Succeed and Nigeria will be great 🇳🇬

Let us those who fought against the coastal road project:

https://nairaland.isosite.org/8077917/peter-obi-vehemently-condemns-lagos-calabar

Below is reproduced those who condemned the project:

emkz:
Brilliant.

The young mathematician made some fundamental assumptions. That the 15km/year would persist over the next 50 years, and that road construction would not be activated simultaneously over 48 areas which can reduce the construction to one year. The question would be if the company has the capacity.

The assumption is also that geological conditions would be the same over other areas apart from Lagos. I am only pointing out the flaws in the premises of the calculation.

I like Tinubu for one thing. He is ruthlessly ambitious. When FG was pumping funds in reclaiming coastal lands in Victoria Island that erosion swept away, Tinubu embarked on a project to prevent coastal flooding. Tinubu also started Eko Atlantic City where the US plans to build a structure for their embassy. Lekki Free Trade Zone was Tinubu's idea. That is where Dangote built his refinery. When Tinubu started LAMATA in 2002, it took another 7 years for the results to be seen and more than 20 years for Lagos to have a light rail. If the road construction would take 50 years, imagine the impact of 50% completion in 25 years. If Obasanjo had started it in 1999, more than 50% would have been completed by now using the mathematician's stabdard.

We thank those who criticize constructively to put government on her toes but it is not possible to finish a project of this magnitude at a rate of 6 months. There'd be more challenges because people will complain about ancestral lands and environmental impact assessment by Arise News.

In closing, let us remind ourselves of those who opposed the coastal road:

1. Atiku Abubakar
2. Comrade Peter Obi
3. Arise News
4. Rufai Oseni
5. Obidient Group
6. One dude who owned Landmark and allocated public land to himself and lied to have lost hundreds of millions of dollars investment due to the swimming pool demolished. He had claimed within a 250 m from the coast which belonged to the public held by the government.

While others have kept quiet seeing the folly in their opposition, Rufai Oseni is still spreading hatred against the road.

Whoever doesn't like the road can do well not to use it.

Nigeria is rising.

Have faith and ignore the prophets of anarchy.

Let us also give honourable mention to one dude who sewed several twitter threads to condemn the project.

emkz:

If anyone from the Niger-Delta comes across the thread, please that some of you voted for Peter Obi. Peter Obi has demonstrated he is against the progress of the Niger Delta communities. The bulk of the funds for running our economy comes from the Niger Delta. But he says a big project to criss-cross the Niger Delta is a misplaced priority.

Note that the US spent their way out of recession through the New Deal which focused on massive infrastructural development across board, including roads. There is no nation interested in progress that is currently not engaged in one form of infrastructural development or the other. But the one which is 60 years old overdue in Nigeria, Peter Obi is fighting it, simply because he lost election.

If he didn't build anything meaningful in Anambra, I think it is disingenuous to fight against something being built through the Niger Delta. Thanks to Tinubu's ingenuity, Lagos is undergoing massive infrastructural development and embarking on an audacious railway project which the likes of Rufai Oseni would condemn.

Peter Obi doesn't want the progress for the Niger Delta. He just wants to get the votes and use anti-developmental and archaic ideas to ruin this country completely.

Only vote for those who want progress to be in your land. With this tweet, Peter Obi has shown he is not interested in that.

As for the Landmark CEO who has been all over the place making noise, can he show us documents where the shorelines and beaches in his location were ceded to him? If he violated the right of way, it is evil for him to complain. The best thing to do was to meet and find ways to relocate his business or shift to an area where the coastal highway won't . When I travelled through Accra-Cape Coast highway, part of which was adjacent to the ocean, it was a beautiful sight with the blue waters! Guess what? Beaches still functioned!!

Just to add, a road network is also a delight for businesses. Food can easily be transported from rural areas to urban centers and those in rural communities would make good money.

But Peter Obi does not want this.

He tolerated them by ignoring them and encouraged his minister of works to do same and focus on his task, or did he call for their arrest? Please show us which road project the PDP started and completed in its 16years and this man has already achieved this much country wide in just 2. You guys should stop thinking with your stomachs

Nonsense. The aim of this project is to link Eko atlantic to the sea port. Project that would not be completed in eight years

Is it not a shame that a federal government is commission a 5% road done out of 100%. I have never seen such since I was born. Commissioning of 30km out of 750km for what reason? This is to show that they’re lost

He commissioned it so that the section of the project can start to be used. You guys should have some sense, we know it's a long time project, so should they wait the whole project duration before you can start to use it, Ema lo opolo yin na...

Is it not funny that dav umahi is from the east and it's his people that are discrediting his effort the most just because of PRES Tinubu. The road is very good. If you are on the island and needed to go to asaba for example, you don't need to go through third mainland Bridge enroute LAGOS ibadan express way down to sagamu any more.

It doesn't matter, it was a collection of project he came to commission, you chose to select one out of many to rant about... Na ur human right so keep ranting. More things to rant about. But you will probably Atiku in the next election whose former party with all the billions raised could not even complete their Secretariat or even pay ground rent for their space occupied

Look.

A policy that's working does NOT need too much grammar to be felt.

No need calling the masses condescending names, they will feel it.

No long talk.

Your skull is empty. Tell me a country that have done this before? Like starting up a contract and at 5% completion you commissioned it. Is it not shameful?

It's you that has issues with your thinking faculty, it is probably faulty, the announcement was a Nationwide commissioning of projects, to show progress made so far and also to open a section for usage, but the only problem for you is commissioning and not that the project is bad, which is all that matters to us, in another 2 years, u will rant again when he commissions another section for usage, the president is commissioning over 200 projects to mark his 2 years in office, a major feat on it's own but you chose to be ranting on the commissioning of a project which is part of a collection of projects. Werey shey yin sir/ma

No be only critic, if them like make dem jump inside lagoon! Or drink snipper.....

Who cares about cost......when you can see, touch, and use the infrastructure?

How many people the cost of 3rd mainland bridge, but see how important it is to lagos economy?

How many people the cost of building Abuja FCT? We are all now proud of the city !

How many people faulted Buhari for spending over $3 billion to build rail to Niger Republic?

How many critic spoke about $3.5 billion Ajaokuta to Kano gas pipeline?

How many people ed that we spent over $10 billion on Ajaokuta steel plant and it is still moribund.

After God, na Tinubu for this country.
