Only wasteful minds call buying books or reading them a waste because no knowledge is a waste.I met a lawyer in the bid of promoting reading culture and she referred to buying physical books to read as a waste. But the fact is,how many people today in Nigeria successfully read online for a long time without distractions from pop-up adverts, messages, notifications and the Likes?Great knowledge are hidden in the foliages of books.

Eyaaaaaa. Rest well sir. On a second note, if you haven't read forest of a thousand daemons by D. O fagunwa and translated or edited by wole Soyinka, more than 55 years ago, pls do so now. Soyinka no be just human being

I fell in love with reading anything from my primary school days. I read anything that is a book!

I was reading this D. O. Fagunwa's book. I think I was in 100 level or so. I've been reading it for a while. One of the days, I was alone and reading in my room. The author was a maestro at using descriptive words to bring events to life. You'd be transported into the world of the story, such that you're almost one of the characters tagging along with the others in the story. You'd imagine things in your mind's eye... I was reading and was in this state when fear overwhelmed me by the gripping scene the author was painting. I got so scared that I smashed the book against the wall, and ran out as fast as my legs could carry me. I couldn't enter the house again until I got company. I later finished the book, but I had to encourage myself a lot to be able to do that.

Such writing prowess! I couldn't bring myself to read Soyinka's translation though. I got busier.

Rest in peace, Sir Ngugi wa Thiong'o.

Weep Not Child and The River Between are his two prominent books dealing with the historical and legendary uprising in Kenya. Ngugi Wa Thiongo popularly writing under the name James Ngugi is the greatest African acclaimed author after Soyinka and Achebe. He was indeed African literary giant. Salute and Rest in peace great father of Africa.

Ngugi Is One Of The Greatest African Literary Giants.
If you have not read ' The Man Died ' by Prof Soyinka, you might be missing Something.
RIP Sir.

That Ogboju Ode ninu igbo irunmole was one of my Yoruba textbook along with Alawiye. It featured the story of a day old baby god by the name of Ajantala. I didn't read it much because the yoruba grammar it was written in was too much for me.
J.F Ọdúnjọ's Aláwìíyé (in several series - ìwé kìíní, ìwé kejì, etc)?! Wow! You're an old man. Lols.

Rest in peace Sir
I The old man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. It was used in my Literature class in Class 1. It didn't compare with any of the books listed. African literature is way richer than others.

Did you read "Sangba Fo" by Akinlade Kola?
He is less known, but that book is dope. I was captivated to the very end even though I hated reading Yoruba.

Yeah... Soyinka is among the last of the old guard of brilliant and gifted writers.

I fear this generation might never live up to their golden standard.

To make matters worse, the reading culture is fast fizzling out.
The world is changing, society is changing and the old ways are scorned. People have no imagination again

Hehehe.

Actually, Soyinka is, but his artistry in a class of his own. He is a Colossus and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't read true true

Separate politics and arts, please. You may not agree with his politics but it doesn't change the fact that he is one of the most notable African writers in the 20th century.

True talk 👍.
Today's Gen Z -Crowds- don't read or eager to acquire acquired Knowledge but want Rights in virtually everything.
Surely, they need Todo more for the World 🌎 than to ordinarily be claiming what they can defend.
The World is built on Deep Acquisition of Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding in all aspects of human endeavours and it only for those who wants to improve on it,not of rights.

Next time, try to read and understand English. I typed: "after Soyinka and Achebe" which means those two were ranked before him.
