Please excuse my grammatical mistakes . I’ll go straight to the point A senior officer around the rank of CSP (DPO) get around 3.9m annually. This figure translates to about $USD2400 per annum! Normally only the above stated fact is enough to trigger a national revolt instantly in saner climes. But let’s not stop there, let’s look at what police officers earn abroad and compare to what our police officers earn. In the United States Police officers salaries vary significantly across states, often reflecting the cost of living and local budget allocations California for example pay their police officers at entry level $115.000/per annum. This figure translates to around #184.000.000 million Naira per annum. Ref: https://www.sfpd.com/entry-level-program https://careers.sf.gov/classifications/?classCode=Q002 While their officers that have put in around 15years (same number of years required for a CSP/DPO) earn a base salary ranging between $120.000-160.000 translating to #192.000.000-#256.000.000 per annum Police officers of this rank in Nigeria earn around $200/monthly (#320.000) (This makes me feel sick) While a US officer earns around $9000/monthly and above translating to a minimum of about #15.000.000 per month. (Let this sink in) Even after adjusting for the cost of living: California is considered expensive, but a police officer’s income still offers a strong middle to upper-middle-class life. In Nigeria, ₦325,000/month is barely sufficient, especially for officers managing operational risks and family responsibilities. Also, it is important to note that the above quoted salary for a California police officer does not include pay for: 1, overtime duty—$15000 2, Vacation leave pay and 3, Sick leave—$3000 4, Longevity pay (5%)—$7000 5, Education—$6000 6, Uniform—$1500 7, Special assignments—$8000 Total Estimated Annual Compensation when added to Base Salary amounts to $180,000 – $200,000+ (#288,000,000–#320,000,000) Let’s look at the social benefits a police officer enjoys in Nigeria: Almost non. As far I know they enjoy only health insurance benefits that most FG workers enjoy which is nothing to write home about. As far as I understand, the Nigerian police is positioned to be a failure by FG. You can defer to the below for reference purposes https://careers.sf.gov/classifications/?classCode=Q002 3 Likes 1 Share |

It's not just the police, 90% of public service jobs in Nigeria are designed to keep you in perpetual poverty. If you are not opportune to find yourself in Grade A agencies like NNPC, NUPRC, NMDPRA, NIMASA, NCC, NDIC, NCDMB, NSIA, CBN or few grade B like NIA, NNRA, BOI - which by the way are reserved for children and relatives of the elite- and you do not have the connections to get yourself a political appointment such as SA, SSA, DG/CEO, Commission Secretary, Board Chairman/Member of parastatal Governing Board, Minister (Junior/Senior), etc. You are just wasting the most productive years of your life calling yourself a civil servant, living from hand to mouth, surviving on loans and almost choking to death before your next paycheck. Gone are the days when public service jobs were the prize. Core Civil service no longer pay gratuities, pensions are no longer for life and are subject to what you and your employer contribute from your meagre salary and will not be enjoyed beyond 75 years of age. if you don't die on or before 75 years, you are on your own. No low cost housing for most civil servants and many will never own a house of their own after 35 years of meritorious service. wage awards, promotion arrears, and other entitlements being owed for years. @OP, you are talking about police officer. Come and see a University professor who after obtaining a Bachelor degree, Master degree, PhD, and over 15 years of post-doctoral lecturing, coupled with numerous research works published in cost-intensive academic journals, yet earn just about 400k monthly. As long as a Ward Councillor and Local government Chairman earns more than a University Professor, we will never progress in this country. This is one of the reasons why curbing corruption in the wider public service is nearly impossible. No one wants to waste 35-40 years of their productive years with nothing to show for it. I dare say a good number of civil servants especially at the Management level thrive on revenue leakages/financial misappropriation within their organisation, the rest are trapped in a cycle of unending debts - making them a perpetual customer of loan companies. 10 Likes 3 Shares |

What's the minimum wage in Nigeria compared to the US minimum wage? Base on Nigeria standard, the 320k is manageable. The FG needs to find ways to make the naira gain value and stabilize.

Civil servants in many countries don’t earn big income but benefits. What the Nigerian government can do is to design a robust benefits structure for civil servant that is contingent upon their diligent performance on the job. Once you’re caught in any type of misconduct that leads to loss of job you will also loose all of the benefits except retirement contributions You guys are only looking at the numbers, these listed benefits doesn’t automatically drops in your bank . You earn it you have to put in the time which means you’re just working and not having an enjoyable life. overtime duty—$15000 2, Vacation leave pay and 3, Sick leave—$3000 4, Longevity pay (5%)—$7000 5, Education—$6000 6, Uniform—$1500 7, Special assignments—$8000 1 Like |

That 320k is not based on 15 years but your rank. You can spend 20 years, yet you never reach that rank. To reach csp or dpo is not by years. Then when you retire, you will cry blood before you collect gratuity. You go waka, carry file and documents. Fellow police officers go oppression you on top processing your retirement benefits

You are a Nigerian and you don't know how to use our number separator? What do you mean by $115.000 instead of writing $115,000? |

You busy talking about Nigeria police salary, are they doing their jobs? If you see Nigeria police on the road at night won't u be more scares for your life? US police are doing their jobs so they deserve their pay. We don't have securities in Nigeria and so they don't deserve any pay until something is done about it, nothing concern me

Why compare the Nigerian Police to the U.S Police? Start with Sub-Saharan countries, then move to Southern and Northern Africa. To further worsen matters, you went ahead to do that with California. |

Why are you comparing them , Op. Agbado people said one is in dollar and one in Naira.; they equally said that the annual 200k dolls cannot be compared with the 3million naira the police are getting since the Oyibo own isn't 3 million dollars. Moreover , what our Naija police can buy with their 3 million, oyibo with their expenses cannot even feed well with theirs. No be me talk o; na agbadorians |

You talk as if Nigerian police living in another world unlike other salary earners in Nigeria. Is the minimum wage in Nigeria not 70,000 naira? Some nurses in Nigeria are earning 200,000 - 250,000 monthly. How much are nurses earning in USA? |
