‘I’d Rather Be Imprisoned Than Obey A Compulsory Voting Law’ — Olisa Agbakoba (10541 Views)

IF THAT IS COMING FROM A LENIENT FELLOW LIKE OLISA AGBAKOGBA THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT NIGERIA IS FACING A COMPLEX SITUATION OF MYOPIA. A NATION WHERE 70℅ ELECTORATES ALWAYS HAVE VOTING APATHY, THEN IT IS HIGH TIME FOR A STRONG MODALITY THAT IS MEANT TO PUSH THEM INTO VOTING...THIS SHOULD BE A REALITY BY GOD GRACE. HOWEVER, FIRST THING FIRST, SECURITY OF THE ELECTORATES SHOULD BE GUARANTEED IN SUCH VOTING SITUATION. |

Law or no law, I can't waste my precious time going out to vote when I don't believe in the capacity of any of the contestants or when I know my vote won't count!

Will they put spy camera in the voting booth? Going into a voting booth is one thing , voting is another, unless void votes will start counting. 1 Like |

What a country 🤦🏽♂️ Such a shame we find ourselves in this mess. Those legislators are jobless tbh. How can you force people to vote, instead of addressing the key and major issues on electoral reforms and reform inec they busy wasting tax payers money deliberating on something that is not even worth the time. if Nigerians decide to boycott voting how will they will arrest all of us. Legislators wey no wise. We need electronic transmission of results compulsory, inec servers should be made the mandatory coalition center in coalition of results. They should reform inec to enable votes count. Rather than this rubbish law that will never see the light of day. 2 Likes |

There's nothing like voting in Nigeria. Vote don't count in Nigeria. All those always encouraging Nigerians come out and vote during elections are brushing their egos, including pastors, activists, etc. We all know what is on ground, let's stop deceiving ourselves. 2 Likes |

Sir, you are not the only one in this matter. More than half of the population of Nigerians may prefer to go to jail for the six months rather than to be forced to vote. If I may ask this question; to vote for who? I can't waste my precious time going out to stand in the sun to vote for saboteurs, NEVER. If there have space enough to jail non voting Nigerians, let them go ahead and the bill

I'm confused, has the renowned barrister and former NBA president not been voting all these while or he is mulling the possibility of not voting in protest if and when such compelling Bill is ed ? Hope it's the latter. Imagine not voting in a democracy you fought military junta to actualize.

Maxymilliano:It won't work it's dead on arrival, we have selfish politicians here in Nigeria all they know it's looting for their own personal gains, you don't even need to force voter's to come and vote , vote for what exactly the ones we voted did our vote count it was rigged, until our votes count we , our votes reflect who we want there and not the ruling party rigging and imposing someone incompetent on us , until the government start to build Nigerian economy, transform the country in a way that even a new born baby will benefit from democracy dividend , they are just noise makers we need to start from you politicians who forced buhari and APC on us , the politicians who brought this hardship called tinubu on us , all of them from FG , reps , senate , governors and all politicians who brought this APC government in power they must go to jail first and not Nigerians who has the right to decide not to vote because our votes don't count in this country. 1 Like |

If voting is made compulsory, empty option for those who have no candidate or party of choice should be available. Simple.
