I am sure Tinubu will be checked by a Nigerian japa doctor on his next medical tourism trip to the foreign land

I don't know where you get your numbers but this is typical Lagos Ibadan newspaper fake news. How can Imo state that produce more graduate doctors than the whole of South West combined have less doctors than Oyo or Ogun? I am from Imo state and I know there are more than 1000 hospitals in Owerri and environs alone. This is besides at least the 30 to 50 hospitals in each local government.

Are you concerned about the numbers ?
Do you see the big picture or you are fixated on the numbers ?
Imo doesn't produce more doctors than southwest. Go and do your research.

Young doctors should no longer be trained for free. They must pay for it. No more subsidy for them. This is economic sabotage

How many practicing software developer do we have? Not up to 5000!

Not up to 2000 practicing petroleum engineers with the way we are importing petrol

Not up to 1000 practicing fishery graduate if not we no supposed to eat imported ice fish when we have better local fishes

Not up to 10,000 practicing pharmacologist if not we no supposed to import every drug from India

Not up to 5000 practicing computer engineers if not robots suppose replace most of these doctors

Nigeria has many problems and these greedy doctors are not part of the biggest problems Nigeria having. Every profession needs equal attention from the government to have a balanced economy

And that is where me I dey always have issues with those who thinks there's no job, there are jobs but the government is never ready to invest in the economy to boost employment

Don't blame those doctors who have japa.
Blame the government who destroyed the economy and country beyond repair.
Is obvious they don't have a future in Nigeria again, so long as Tinubu is president.
Go to all the federal medical centers in FCT Abuja, you will understand why politicians and the elites do not go to public hospitals.
You will tell yourself, that if you have enough money, you will never go to any public hospitals.
The government have destroyed the health sector.

You're getting it all wrong, and na same thing dey affect every other sector

We only just need to make this thing more lucrative by investing more in these sectors

You would have wasted money visiting 8 of them before you find one that is really good undecided
Just try not to get sick people
We are in big trouble
If you find a very good doctor, better cherish them
Even though some of them may have unnecessarily huge egos
The two doctors I interact with online in the USA are very friendly, but can you afford their non refundable
$100 per hour for consultation lol, could be more
plus there’s no telling if the person would effectively treat you.
Finding a fantastic doctor globally is like trial & error, rolling a die. You never know which side it’d land on
II interacted with a few foreigners with complications, they also complained it took a while to find their doctors that helped pinpoint solutions to their problems

Oga is still boil down to the government.
Is it me and you that will invest in the public sectors?
The salary of a S.A to a politician is far more than the salary of a Doctor in a public hospital.
The S.A may even be an OND or NCE holder and he is receiving more than a Medical doctor, just because they can use him to rig an election.
Our Doctor's have a very poor welfare package in this country.
Go to other countries and see how they take care of medical personnel.

This is definitely an incorrect figure. If proper and accurate counting is done as regards the number of qualified doctors in Nigeria, I will be suprised if we have up to 5000 in this country as APC policies have succeeded in chasing out most of the qualified doctors in the country. Most of the ones still in the country is because they do not have a means yet to leave or lack the needed expertise( which once acquired will the taking the next available flight out of the country).
That is why I tell people to pray they never require any serious medical attention in the country, otherwise, the only outcome might be "death".
God help my Nigerians.

If you work in the hospital you will understand. Doctors talk about Japa just to blackmail Federal Government to pay them more. In the real sense, doctors no Japa reach nurses for Nigeria. But they know how to use propaganda to get more money. Today, a starting resident doctor (doctor under govt training) gets paid about N400k for a start ie fresh post nysc doctor while the very senior consultants coasts home with above N1.3m monthly. Doctors start earning N500k+ just four years after they start residency programs. BSc nurses post nysc are paid N190k and very senior nurses near retirement after spending 35 years in service earn about N400k. Doctors spend six years in University and one year in internship to achieve so much in short while. Nurses spend five years in university and one year in internship to achieve so little. Why? Doctors control the ministry of health. They hold all positions from minister to permanent secretary to directors and they constitute the board of heath. They have representative in the board of each hospital especially the board chairman is often medical doctors. The other board are political appointees and not representives of other professions I. The hospital. Doctors are still pushing for office of the surgeon general of the federation to be created for doctors and also govt funding for their own private hospitals while they are allowed to work in more than one hospital at a time. Doctors in university setting earn from the teaching hospital attached to the university and from the university at thesame time. But these guys are not satisfied.

Doctors propose privatisation of other health professionals leaving only doctors on federal govt payroll, they propose doctor plate number, they fought against increment of salary for other health workers while theirs have been increased thrice between 2014 and now. This Japa talk is a strategy of recent being used to force the govt to do the bidding of the unions such as Association of Resident Doctors. Whenever you read news like this, they have a pending demand from the federal govt and want to resort to blackmail to pull it through. Govt has to give equal attention to all professions even those outside health to have a balanced economy

We have native doctors, herbalist, Tianshi and GNLD marketers.

The ratio gets better if they're included.

I someone in power, a couple years ago, saying something like, "If they all want to leave, let them. We have more than enough." Empty pride instead of calling them to the bargaining table. Now we have a doctor-patient ratio of 1:7000.

Doctors Are the New Crude Oil—And We’re Giving It Away For Free

The U.S., U.K., and Saudi Arabia don’t need to bomb us—they’re poaching Nigeria’s best minds with a smile and a g bonus.

While Nigeria spends billions training doctors… the diaspora harvests them like fruit. All while the President flies to Paris for his next medical check-up.

This isn’t negligence. It’s national betrayal.

Demand These Federal Interventions—Now:
1. Interest-Free Mortgages for doctors willing to work outside Lagos/FCT.
2. Federal Price-Matching Mortgage Payments tied to years of rural service.
3. Doctor-Only Federal Pension Scheme, 20-year lock-in, price-matched.
4. Free Education for children of doctors in under served zones.
5. Zero-Interest Loans for Private Practices, scaled to size and location.

We definitely had way more than 30,000!

Just it that you didn't read the article because it clearly says the situation has gotten worse in recent years which coincides with the MU-MU era!😂

MU-MU ALWAYS lowers standards, whether academic, moral or intellectual.

That's why they lag behind EVERYWHERE on earth and in every metric for measuring growth and progress.

Build special schools of health that train health experts across Nigeria and keep churning them out. We can be exporting doctors to the works and they will keep increasing our remittances when they send money home to their loved ones.

Even to gain issions to study medicine and surgery is so so difficult. I wonder why they refuse to it more students when we're having this dearth of doctors.

How is this good to you? Are the jobs of these other people directly related to life?

It is until you have a medical emergency and the person needed to care for you is nowhere to be found before you realise that there is a big problem.
