I did not take Cardinal Arinze's matter too seriously when Okpalaeke was rejected by the Catholics in Mbaise, even though I knew of the arguments for and against. However, when Okpalaeke was appointed Cardinal in total disregard for the work and experience of the many other Archbishops that are in Nigeria, then I realised that cardinal Arinze's favouritism for Bishop Okpalaeke has no cure.

If the late Pope had decided to settle for a new Cardinal from Nigeria without relying on Cardinal Arinze's input, Bishop Okpalaeke would not have been on the list of contenders not to talk of being the one chosen of the lot.

The kind of favouritism we see in the workplace, where those with less experience and contributions to the company are promoted and fast-tracked to the top ahead of those who are actually doing more for the company, is what I see with the elevation that Okpalaeke has achieved to become Bishop and then Cardinal.
