UMUAHIA – Former Governor of Rivers State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Amaechi, has called on Abia State Governor Alex Otti to disclose the source of funds financing the massive infrastructure development currently ongoing in the state. Amaechi, who made the remarks while addressing journalists during a project tour in Abia, led a delegation comprising alumni and classmates of Governor Otti from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). He commended the governor’s impressive achievements in less than 22 months in office. Amaechi, who made the remarks while addressing journalists during a project tour in Abia, led a delegation comprising alumni and classmates of Governor Otti from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). He commended the governor’s impressive achievements in less than 22 months in office. "We are a delegation of Governor Alex Otti’s year mates from the University of Port Harcourt, those of us who graduated between 1980 and 1989,” Amaechi stated. “Seeing is believing. This is incredible—especially Port Harcourt Road. The last time I was here, it was littered with refuse and riddled with gullies, not potholes. To see the transformation is commendable.” Amaechi praised the quality of work but questioned how the governor was funding the projects, noting the frequent complaints by governors of smaller states about inadequate federal allocations. The question to ask is: where is he getting the money to fund all this? Many governors complain—genuinely—that there’s no money. So, Alex must tell us how he’s doing it,” Amaechi said. He also expressed iration for the ongoing reconstruction of the Omenuko Bridge on the Abam-Ohafia Road, describing the previous colonial-era structure as a “death trap.” “What I saw there was terrifying. The old bridge looked like something out of the civil war era. Why was it left in that condition all these years? Did the previous governors not see it? People even died there in the ‘70s and ‘80s,” he remarked. Amaechi lauded Otti’s choice of reputable contractors like Julius Berger, recalling his own experience working with them on major railway projects such as Warri-Itakpe, Lagos-Ibadan, and Port Harcourt-Aba rail lines. Impressed by the developments, Amaechi predicted that Otti’s second-term bid would be “a walkover,” if the current pace and quality of work were sustained. He urged the people of Abia to continue ing the governor. Other of the UNIPORT alumni delegation—Hon. Ernest Rowland Douglas, a retired diplomat; Dr. Chidi Ulelu; and Mr. Duke Odinde—echoed Amaechi’s sentiments, describing Otti as “a homeboy and worthy colleague” who deserved their full . Projects inspected during the tour included: Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Abiriba–Ohafia (Sections 1–3), Omenuko Bridge, Library Avenue (Bank Road), Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard and Port Harcourt Road, Aba. The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, who led the tour, attributed the infrastructural turnaround to Otti’s prudent management of funds, zero tolerance for corruption, integrity, and a commitment to good governance. “Every kobo spent is justified,” Ajagba noted. “People asking where the money is coming from shows how prudent the governor has been. If others could emulate this, Nigeria would be a better https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2025/04/otti-should-explain-source-of-funds-for-ongoing-massive-development-in-abia-amaechi/amp/ 5 Likes 1 Share |

I'm glad the South East zone is gradually getting her leadership right. From Enugu to Abia to Anambra, our governors are doing well. I'm still observing the governor of Ebonyi State as I don't understand the kind of successor Dave Umahi gave his state after doing such a great job. Our biggest hurdle now is the Nigerian factor that has slowed us down and installed a con artist like Hope Uzodinma. Imo State will celebrate the day the tenure of that bleaching cream lover comes to an end. 14 Likes 1 Share |

Lifestone: Alex Otti was once the GMD of Diamond Bank. That simply means the man understands every trick of financial management more than any other governor in Nigeria today. What Alex Otti is doing has nothing to do with Tinubu who cannot even tell his left from his right. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

Ndi Imo, unu na-ahu? Since we know Nnenna Oti is one in every 4 elections cycle, it can only be in our hands to pilot our home state away from excursion governors that comes from a soundly and roundly rejected cult of a party. It is either we end this evil while it eats us, or we watch in our wasted years, helpless as it eats our children. It is well. ImpartialGuy:We shall prevail, but not by mouth. 1 Like |

Emmabyte: You’re not taking into the toxic kind of politics and governance practiced in Nigeria! Some people don’t mind scattering the entire country if that will help discredit the working istration of a president they see as a usurper or from the wrong ethnicity! |

The major reason why Otto could do all these is simple: he won his election without any god father he contested and won. He has his state funds without any god father laying claims to it, most importantly his delivering because he knew the people truly voted for him and not through rigging. He’s simply returning the love back to the people. Kudos

ImpartialGuy:The same President Bola Tinubu you are condemning here (He is a technocrat, chartered ant and auditor who rose to the senior position of a treasurer with Mobil Nigeria now ExxonMobil) as a person "who cannot tell his left from his right" is the same man who has already granted the approval for a full-fledged airport to be built by the Federal Government right in that same Abia State. Alex Otti only offered to provide land and construct the runway. Bola Tinubu and Alex Otti have been friends for long right from Lagos and with Alex Otti's previous association with Action Congress, now rebranded and fused into All Progressives Congress. I detest it when people like you engage in obvious bigotry and/or selective amnesia. The same Tinubu also signed the Electricity Act into law which will give the 36 Nigerian States the ability to generate and transmit their own electricity supply, which is what he tried to do as the Governor of Lagos State with Enron which the then President Olusegun Obasanjo ruthlessly scuttled because Lagos State wasn't governed by a PDP Governor and much more. When someone does well, he or she should be commended, BUT when the same person doesn't perform optimally, then constructive criticisms are apt NOT insults! Indeed, Alex Otti is a banker by professional so that should give insights into why he is performing BUT that itself may not be an absolute reason why he seems to be doing well. Until the Abia State s are properly checked, you do not know how much huge debts Abia State owes as loans for these "massive" projects. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu too is an investment banker who rose to the senior rank of a treasurer in his bank before ing the Lagos State Government as the first Chairman of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund," and then went on to be appointed as a Lagos State Commissioner under the Governor Babatunde Fashola istration. So, Alex isn't the ONLY banker in government as a State Governor. There are others as well doing quite well. 8 Likes 1 Share |
