Did you listen to your self?
So hausa is a language of a particular religion?
EBEk101:
They shouldn't impose it on our Christian brothers, as choosing one language as the official language disregards the existence and significance of other minority ethnic language

Hausa is not an Islamic language, it is an Indigenous language, so I don't understand what you mean by not imposing it on Christians

Good for them. More or less a symbolic gesture though, like English being designated a national language in the US recently. Now all they need to do is deal with having one of the lowest literacy rates in the world.

It doesn't matter. The real picture is that Muslim/islam as a religion is largely dominated by hausas and their brother fulani!

I suppose this was because the Missionaries prior to truly exploring the region also mistakenly thought only Hausas existed in those areas at the time and so a lot of early effort was made towards translating the Bible to Hausa at the time. However, the fanatical Islamists and their Islamic rulers rejected Christianity and even threatened the lives of some missionaries at the time. On the other hand, accidentally the same missionaries also discovered the existence of a massive swathe of people with their own languages existing in the current middle Belt who had no prior exposure to either Islam or Christianity. These diverse ethnic groups existed (and still do) in the hundreds. So instead of pouring resources to translate the Bible to these hundreds of different languages, they simply decided to use the Hausa Bible already translated to reach out to some of these minoriry groups. The more educated ones who were previleged to go to missionary schools got exposed to the English Bible. My point is--most of these minority Christian groups did not even know anything about Hausa--but were only exposed to such in Church because the Bible was already translated in that language at the time. The Nigerian Bible Translation Trust in Jos is busy translating the Bible to many other minority languages--however, it is pretty hard for many of the these people to read or write in their native languages without an organic social culture that encourages thinking and writing in those languages. It is the massive number of minority languages and the fragmentation that prompted the missionaries to take the "cheaper Hausa" route--even though those ethnic groups had no affinity with Hausa prior.

There are many translations of the bible in other languages of the north

Also hausa has been a trade language for many centuries.

Of course that was what the headline said so there is no missing that information. But English and French being the working language you must have missed because if not you wouldn't have said "Wahala for who wan go Niger." By the way, it is not appropriate to use a question to answer a question. Well I know people like you will come with a counter defense about how you are free to do whatever. Peace!

Niger seems to be making all the right moves.

He appears to be more of a patriot than a dictator. Anyway, time will tell.

He is towing the path of emancipation. Good move

It seems they don't even have a fulani problem over there.

Exposure my brother. People just assume and that's it. I have met exceptionally good hausas, Yoruba and ibos.

I have concluded that it is hard to make it in Nigeria without having connections with people of different tribes. I don't know what the tribal bigots on this forum do for a living. Or maybe they are just hiding under the facelessness of the forum.
