Mother's Day Nightmare: Detained Woman Laments Torture and Betrayal

A woman who was detained on Mother's Day at an Abuja police facility has expressed deep bitterness and pain over her mistreatment.

Mrs. Joy-Smart Chinenye revealed her agony after being arrested by the police at the request of her husband, a man she once loved and ed.

Mrs. Joy-Smart Chinenye shared her story in a statement issued on Monday, which was provided to our reporter.

"While mothers around the world were celebrating Mothering Sunday, my own husband—the man I once loved and ed—had me thrown into the Abattoir-SARS detention facility in Abuja, a notorious place known for holding criminals, kidnappers, and terrorists. This is the same man I met when he was just a classroom teacher. I stood by him, fed him, ed him financially, and watched as God elevated him to a multi-billionaire. But how did he repay me? By having me brutalized, arrested, and locked away in one of the most dreaded cells in the country," she said.

Mrs. Chinenye described the emotional pain of her betrayal, stating that despite her unwavering loyalty throughout their marriage, her husband had been unfaithful.

She revealed that he had been involved with both single and married women, exposing her to multiple infections in the process, yet, she endured the humiliation and betrayal in silence, attempting to protect their marriage from public scrutiny.

However, she said he continued to find ways to harm her.

She explained that her husband manipulated the police into arresting her over an alleged debt—an issue that should have been addressed through civil court, not police brutality.

"It is regrettable that this time, his weapon against me was the Nigerian Police Force,"

"When did the police become a debt recovery agent?"she said.

On March 27, 2025, she recounted, officers stormed their home, forcibly taking her away in front of their children. She was then detained at the FCID Annex in Panti, Lagos, where she was tortured and coerced into transferring ₦5 million to an they provided. When she was unable to meet his further demands, she was forcefully transported to Abuja, where she was again subjected to detention, abuse, and extortion at the notorious Abattoir facility.

"I was repeatedly taken from the SARS detention cell at night to unknown locations, where I endured intense coercion and intimidation. These harrowing experiences continued until the timely intervention of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor (I.C. Ejiofor Chambers), whose relentless legal efforts finally secured my release in the early hours of last night. But the scars—both physical and emotional—remain," she said.

Mrs. Chinenye emphasized that she could no longer stay silent.

"In due course, I will grant a press release and expose the full truth about Obinna George Smart Unaegbu. The world deserves to know the reality," she added.

Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the injustices faced by individuals caught in abusive situations and the profound impact of betrayal and abuse on both physical and emotional well-being.

If truly she was arrested and tortured in the manner described in the post, she is a victim of human rights violation.

But the rest of the story where she talks about being ive to the man and the man following other women doesn't make any meaning to me now until I hear from both sides. I say this because any woman who claims she kept quiet in such a marriage because she was trying to protect the marriage from public condemnation obviously went into the marriage in an undignifying manner and is afraid that those she tried using fake life to oppress will mock her mercilessly.

Notice that she told all these stories but could not specifically mention what led to her arrest. I am not trying to justify the treatment she claims she had received. Even if she was caught in the act of stealing, kidnapping or killing, there's no justification to arrest and treat her in the manner described in the post. But the fact is that she does not appear clean in this her own story. If she appears this unclean in her own story, imagine how she will appear in another person's story. I suspect that she and her husband are birds of the same feathers.

The woman is being clever by half. She did not come clean about what happened. Any offence that warrant her being transferred from Lagos to FCID was a very serious offence after the initial payment of #5m. What's the relationship between her and the so-called husband? Until, we hear from the husband, she is just lying.
