A farmer has been arrested in connection with the poisoning of cows in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, according to local authorities.

The arrest followed an investigation into the recent poisoning of 20 cows, an act that has been strongly condemned by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.

The Chairman of MACBAN in Benue State, Risku Muhammed, accused criminal elements in Agatu LGA of poisoning and rustling cattle.

According to him, the incident happened on Saturday in Ucha village, where a farmer, identified as Bawa Oneh, allegedly laced rice chaff with poison and invited a herder to feed it to the cows.

This led to the death of 13 cows, with seven others being treated by a veterinary doctor.

“We received reports from our that a criminal poisoned rice chaff and invited one of our to graze his cows on it,” Muhammed explained.

“Sadly, 13 cows died immediately, and seven others are under treatment.”

This incident comes on the heels of another reported cattle rustling episode that occurred the previous Thursday, when 200 cows were stolen.

However, security operatives intervened promptly, arresting one of the rustlers, while others managed to escape.

Muhammed commended the prompt action of the Agatu LGA chairman, Melvin James, who responded quickly to the situation involving the herders and local communities.

He also praised the local government and non-governmental organisations for their continuous , including compensation for cows killed by criminals in the region.

“The local government chairman, along with NGOs, has been proactive in compensating for cows lost to these criminals,” Muhammed said.

The MACBAN chairman also pointed out that these criminals have been responsible for a series of cattle rustling and killings across several villages, including Olegodege, Utigologwu, Egwuma, Akele, Okwtanobe, and now Ucha.

In response to the incident, the Chairman of Agatu LGA, Melvin James, confirmed that a farmer had been arrested in connection with the poisoning.

He assured that the situation was under investigation and that efforts were underway to address the problem.

“We have received complaints from Miyetti Allah, and an investigation is ongoing,” James stated. “Agatu has been experiencing relative peace due to the peace committee, and we will continue to review the peace process. Unfortunately, some criminal elements are trying to destabilise this peace, but the government is committed to stopping them.”

James also commended the state government for its role in maintaining peace in Agatu and requested more security operatives to be deployed to the area.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the arrest of the suspect linked to the poisoning.

“I received a briefing this morning (Sunday) about the poisoning incident, and an investigation is in progress. One suspect has been arrested,” Anene said.

Anene also noted that a peace committee has been working tirelessly in Agatu LGA to ensure that peace continues to prevail in the region, which has faced challenges in the past.

The Nigeria Police is Able & Active to Arrest a Person For Poisoning a Cow, But Can Never Arrest Killer Fulani Herdsmen Terrorists That Leads Their Cows to Destroy The Farmers Crops & Properties . This Double Standard is What is Breeding The Actions Like We Heard of in Edo

If true, he probably did so out of retaliation to losses incurred by cattle grazing on his farm and apparently did not get any assistance from the so-called NGOs, government or law enforcement agencies, and resorted to such action.

It may also be unintentional.

From occurrences across the Country over the last few years, it's obvious the farmers and victims of criminal herders are not paid attention to because they choose to be peaceful and law-abiding.

When Nigerians are ready, they will focus on allowing competent, intelligent and bold individuals into governance, not the double-dealing opportunists seen today.

It's like we have two laws in this country one for the south and another for the north which says it's ok for the cows to feeds on people farm produce but a crime to feeds the cow with poison in retaliation

Welcome to our country where cows are more valued than human life. Same herders will kill and maim farmers in their own community yet no arrest.

Stop telling lies about the Fulani people. Only Igbo people are the criminals hiding behind Fulani’s to kidnap and kill Nigerians.

Highways:
Where Are The Cows? Is Evans A Herdsman?'

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

https://twitter.com/i/status/1150428613751320577

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

What is the sense in cutting down your nose because you want to see your mouth?

How do you get beef and milk after you poison all the cows?

.... As long as APC remains in control at the center, nothing can be done about these Fulani terrorists, APC cult entered into a covenant with satan/Obama/CIA etc in 2014/15 for power.

Tinubu is doing exactly what Buhari did throughout his 8 years holocaust i.e look the other way while the kidnapping/murder continue unabated and once in a while issue empty press statements.

Majority have no idea their own government is at war with them !!!

Beef and meat have replacements. We can go for fish instead of allowing cows to finish all our plants. If we don't eat beef, we can eat chicken or goat. But if we don't eat agbado and cassava, how will we survive? grin

This must be lies.

Benue has a law against open grazing,
So why is a herdsman moving from farm to
To farm?

They have been unable to arrest fulani that
killed dozens of people in the same agatu area,
But are arresting a farmer that a herdsman took
His cattle to destroy his harvest.

The farmer must have had a bad experience
before and probably set a trap. 🤔

The Fulani herdsmen I knew as a child back in the early 90’s up u til late 2000’s were nice and peaceful people who only knocked on your door whenever they need water to drink and thereafter leave quietly. How they’ve been so villainfied this much is still a surprise to me. I hope government protects them from all these media propaganda. Mischievous elements are out to exterminate the Fulani race, but God no go gree.
