Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Panam Percy Paul, has revealed that he was once offered a staggering ₦7 billion (equivalent to £24 million at the time) to limit how often he mentioned Jesus in his songs—but he outrightly rejected the offer. ![]() In an interview with Pastor Emmanuel Iren, the veteran gospel artist recounted how a record label approached him in 1995 with a lucrative three-year contract worth £24 million. However, the deal came with a shocking condition that clashed with his Christian beliefs. According to Paul, the record label requested that he reduce the number of times he mentioned the name "Jesus" in his songs. Instead, they suggested that he replace it with alternative like "The Righteous One" or "The Greatest Lover." ![]() Recalling the moment, he said: "I was at the peak of my ministry and success in the industry when I was offered £24 million for a three-year contract. Back then, that was equivalent to ₦7 billion. The catch was, ‘Can you reduce the number of times you call the name Jesus in your songs?’ And there was more where that came from. One of them even said to me, ‘You actually don’t need to mention the name Jesus. You can call Him other names like Righteous One or Greatest Lover.’ I was shocked, so I told them—keep your money, while I keep the name!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75RwIrqrKC8 1 Like 1 Share |

Thank God he is not a pastor where you could say he is actually saying this because of money..'his lies' indeed..,... You people play down on the efforts of men who have struggled to be impactful in a space where they are not giving any fighting chances simply because you didn't experience their struggles... If Tupac were alive today and he began to rap about the struggles Black kids had back in their days, people like you will minimize him and the troubles he had to surmount to be known. This is a Genuie child of GOD who has Genuie relationship , Knowledge and insight of The LORD JESUS CHRIST and HIS Word. They wanted him to sell his souls for Vanities and things that have Eternal Value just like many are doing today. No matter the Millions, billion or Trillions of US Dollars offered to you to sell your Soul, Never Ever give in to it. Nothing on Earth is worth trading your Soul in Eternity for. A second in the Lake of Fire will wiped off all the years of Flexing, Dinning and Whining in Sin and Evil. 1 Like |

CyrusVI: Recognition without a Genuie relationship with JESUS CHRIST is CATASTROPHIC! CALAMITY! DISASTER and DESTRUCTION! Just one Recongnition counts. It doesn't matter who Recongnizes you, if you are not Recongnized by JESUS CHRIST, you are Heading for Destruction. |

LabourPartyNG: You're entitled to your opinion as much as the person you quoted. Live and let live. Most rational people will call it a lie because we know what the entertainment industry was like back then and how the economy was. Just because someone says something doesn't mean it should be believed. How much were the contracts of best selling international musicians at that time? But of course, you're free to believe whatever you want to, just don't go about trying to bully people into believing your fantasies. 1 Like |

I first heard him mention this in his music school my sister attended in Jos. This was 2003. That was and is still a huge amount of money. I can't the name of the record label he mentioned then. I thought he was crazy then and still do. But I find his faith commendable. Panam is the father of gospel music in Nigeria. He has paid his dues and I respect a man like that. This is someone who paid the flight ticket and hotel fees of him and his team to go minister in a crusade in Ibadan and didn't collect a dime! I have nothing against those who have commercialized gospel music. I'm happy that there are still others like Panam, who are so sold out on their love for God that money is secondary. Yet, he is still doing very well for himself. Sir Panam, you remain celebrated! A ministry without scandal is very rare. 2 Likes |
