PRESIDENT TINUBU DIRECTS MANHUNT FOR KILLERS OF HUNTERS IN EDO

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the murder of travelling hunters intercepted by local vigilantes in the Uromi community of Esan North Local Government of Edo State.

The President, who expressed shock at the dastardly act on Thursday, directed Police and other security agencies to conduct swift and thorough investigations and punish the suspected culprits.

President Tinubu commiserated with the families of the affected victims and assured them that criminals would not be allowed to shed the blood of innocent Nigerians in vain.

The President noted that jungle justice has no place in Nigeria, and all Nigerians have the freedom to move freely in any part of the country.

President Tinubu commended the Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and community leaders in Uromi for their swift response to avert the escalation of tension.

Sally Suleiman @is_salsu

The tragic killing of 16 travelers in Edo State is deeply saddening and completely unacceptable. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. Edo is a peaceful and welcoming state, and such acts of violence do not reflect our values.

The Governor @m_akpakomiza visited the scene and has directed security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. Our hearts are with the families of the victims, and we pray for peace and unity in this difficult time. 🙏

More reactions.

Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim, CON @ProfIsaPantami

The brutal killings of 16 innocent people, which happened in the Udune Efandion community in Uromi, Edo State, yesterday, 27th March 2025, are highly irresponsible and a clear case of jungle justice. The video has clearly shown human inhumanity to humans in Nigeria.

Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure citizens are protected and culprits are always brought to book without any form of selective justice. It is said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

In addition, the protection of the lives and property of citizens is not a favour but the primary responsibility of government as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution Section 14 (2) (b). I also strongly advise security agencies to carefully analyse the video being circulated on the killings and identify the criminals, and arrest them. The following technologies and their applications are recommended:

1) Object Detection: Identifies specific objects, such as face, skin, clothing, or accessories, using computer vision. Colour, OpenCV, and PyTorch;

2) Facial Recognition Technology (FRT): Uses artificial intelligence (AI) to compare facial features in the video with that of the suspects. Convolutional Neural Networks and OpenFace are apt here; and

3) Deep Learning-based Video Analysis: Uses neural networks to analyse video content. Google Cloud Video Intelligence is relevant in this regard.

I believe the technologies, algorithms, and applications mentioned above can help the security agencies to identify the culprits involved in this brutality and those committed in the past and even the future.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of the victims while praying to Allah to be merciful to them and bring absolute peace and stability in Nigeria. May Allah expose the perpetrators of this crime and all the perpetrators of the previous crimes committed in Nigeria and the world in general.

The action is as barbaric as herdsmen wiping out a whole village in Benue state without any manhunt, and it happens in the next community next week without any president speaking.

A tale of two countries.

They are killing terrorists in the North as we speak. The Nigeria military are killing them daily.

But you are right. Same outrage must be constant across all region.

While jungle justice must be frowned upon, you must not only be fair, you must be seen to be fair.

Tinubu and Remi Tinubu, should Deborah's killers who openly bragged about killing her and exhibited the matchbox used to set her ablaze go scot free and not brought to justice?

Justice is Justice. There has to be Justice.

If only he can direct manhunt on killer herdsmen in benue. Even Enugu women protested, he sent security agencies against them..

Which way Nigeria, when is it lawful for a particular group to be moving around with guns?
Don’t you know any gun that can kill an animal can kill human?

Yet, he never condemned the slaughtering and massacre of hundreds across the nation by Herdsmen...!

I never saw or read him shocked or directing the immediate capture and arrest of those terrorists.

Good

While the perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought to book, the next time we hear about Fulani herdsmen wiping out a village or or kidnapping and raping people, we expect this same response from Tinubu.
He is very quick to say something about this because it is Northerners involved but he has kept quiet over the killings of the past weeks going on in the South-East, South-West and Middle-Belt.

Two soldiers were killed in Benue, we didn't see any statement from Aso Rock

Southern leaders too should wake up and start outrage against activities of killer herdsmen and kidnappers from a particular ethnic group wrecking havoc all over the Southern parts and Middle Belt..

You'll see likes of Atiku, Kwankwaso and co. issuing statements and strong condemnations once Northerners are affected but the 'odales' and 'onijekujes' calling themselves politicians from South will keep mute as their people are getting wiped out because of cowardice and greed for crumbs. I thank God for the gallant Yoruba COAS dealing ruthlessly with insurgents in Nigeria

Wow
May God have mercy on the dead.
2 wrongs don't make a right.
Please president and governor, launch manhunt for the several Edo, Esan and Afemai people who have been killed in their farms, kidnapped from their houses, raped, collapsed because of huge loans taken for farms that were destroyed by these people responsible. Maybe not these people protesting but people with similarities. People they have shielded, defended, enabled, armed and looked away when they attack, revenge, get bailed, never serve time and caused a certain Jackson Sunday to get death penalty from saving his life on his farm which they termed revenge and not self defence.
Deborah was killed in a place I've walked, worked and slept. Tambuwa was governor then and nothing came out. Now he's a Senator.
Okpebholo was once a Senator when these things happened in his senatorial district, now he's governor when these things ARE still happening!
Justice must go with equity

I the man hunt of those devilish, barbarian lunatic Edo citizens. They re so crude, inhumane cannibalistic. I can't even withstand the sight of such gory scene.

Burning a fellow man and people still stand there filming and laughing. I stand to be corrected,it is only in Nigeria I see people burning people in broad say light And govt stand aloof. I can't even imagine Europeans setting themselves on fire when they're not in war. Cmon. Infact the whole of that crude uncivilized village must be shut down for two weeks. What nonsense angry sad

Na Southerners I blame for this.

I will tell you why. Killing itself is a bad thing that should be frown against.

—If a Fulani herdsmen terrorist commit murder, he do so in the dark, cowardly kill people, run away inside forest, and mix with other herdsmen. No one will know the face except the dead. Authorities will still manhunt them but it is more hard to nab them easily.

—If Southerners retaliate, they will call 25 camera man, do it on video, share it on social media. Then when government act, they start crying that no manhunt and bla bla bla. It’s very easy to nab someone I see on camera. Even if they all believe they are indeed kidnappers like they claimed, what is the brain behind recoding murdering people? Them think court go just tell them go or what?

This statement from President Tinubu is nothing but a hollow and insincere display of outrage that rings entirely empty and detached from the reality on the ground. The murder of the innocent hunters in Uromi wasn’t a random act of violence – it was the direct result of lawlessness and failure at the highest levels of government. Yet, instead of addressing the systemic issues that allowed such brutality to unfold, the President offers nothing more than empty words and vague promises.

The President “directed the police” to investigate and “punish the culprits”, but it’s clear from his inaction so far that he’s not truly committed to making sure justice is served. If he was, there would already be swift ability—yet mob justice continues to thrive under his watch. Talk is cheap, but results are what Nigerians need. If anything, this is yet another attempt to dodge responsibility, showing that President Tinubu is all about public relations, not real action.

The statement that “jungle justice has no place in Nigeria” is laughable when the state itself has allowed mob justice to become rampant, from security forces’ inaction to the empowerment of vigilante groups. How can anyone take this seriously when vigilantes continue to roam free, knowing they have the backing of a government that does nothing to stop them?

Commending the Edo State governor and local leaders? Again, this is deflecting blame. Why is Tinubu not addressing the core issue—his failure to maintain law and order? This is a crisis of governance, not of isolated communities.

President Tinubu’s statement is a blatant attempt to placate the masses without doing the hard work of actually ensuring safety. Words won’t bring back the lives lost, and they certainly won’t restore the rule of law. Until he takes real responsibility for the unfolding anarchy in the country, this is just another empty exercise in political rhetoric.
