Update,

The teacher has been arrested and detained and case would go to court on Monday.

A petition against the school will follow suit.

Nigeria is not a zoo, if you are okay with assault, I AM NOT, and nobody has the morality or right to assault my kids.

So guys, I just relocated my kids to Lagos and had to enroll them in a primary school where I paid excess of 600k as tuition for 2 kids. ( 6 and 8 years old)

My son in basic 1 came back with story of being flogged, same story for the one in basic 3. I am going bananas right there. Called the school and the teacher confirmed He flogged them both lightly. I can only imagine the action I would take there tomorrow.

Is this a norm in Lagos schools as I am compelled to ask?

A completely crazy practice to me.

I stopped teaching last December.

I used to teach maths in ph.

I was the only teacher who flogged in that school.

The other teachers were too scared to flog cos of parents and school management.

Me, I did not care o.

Parents came many times to warn me and cause a scene in school.

The school management didn't know what to do with me. They contemplated laying me off a couple of times, but they couldn't.

They saw the work I did with all the pupils. Even the ones that were seen as dull before I came.

I used to flog for the following reasons.
1. Multiplication table. From 2 times to 20 times. Was compulsory every morning. If you could not recite it, you were dead.
2. Not doing home work. This one is a very capital offence.
3. Playing when I'm teaching . Spe

As I speak to you, the management have doubled my salary cos parents have threatened to withdraw their kids if I am no longer teaching there.

If you paid school fees for your kids, just know that part of what you paid for is their flogging.

Let us not adopt that western propaganda.

I am against abuse, but African children should be disciplined with the cane.

3 strokes won't kill them.
Anything above 6 on the palm is abuse.

Continue bragging it better to take caution than to meet yourself where you wouldn't like, little punishment is better

Even if it is normal in Lagos Schools, you should let the school know your children should be off-limits to them. Threaten to use the Law if necessary. Equally, take some time to get other parents to see why they too should do the same. undecided

The criminal code in Nigeria criminalizes physical assault and your children are citizens covered under that very same Law. So, there ought to be no reason why they should be subjected to an assault of the physical kind by their school or even the government. Also, consider the following section of the criminal code. undecided

Lol, going by the outdated constitution is why we are still in a mess as a people.

A constitution that doesn't permit state police to tackle insecurities.

That is the law you are leaning on. Kwantinue

Stop spewing ignorant bullsheet like the vast majority of Nigerians are notorious for! There is nothing outdated about the Constitution. undecided

The Constitution clearly indicates that the Nigerian Police is meant to be a Law enforcement organization that serves the interest of the people and citizenry. The Laws clearly state how they ought to go about doing this too. But because the vast majority of Nigerians do not care much, they are not there to ensure the system is able to them. undecided

1. You look around Nigeria yet you boldly declare that all of that flogging turning you all into cool-headed fellows of today? So, by this reasoning of yours, all of your many politicians, scammers-in-the-lords, traditional rulers, Policemen and women, etc., — all who likely received this same flogging back then in your schools— seem to you like cool-headed fellows today, right?

I'm not here to argue with anyone but in as much as I'm not the religious type of person but one verse from the Bible which I firmly believe in is -"Spare the rod, and spoil the child". Any society that clearly goes against that is very likely to face some consequences which may not be too good for it......

My two cents tho..

U cited an instance from the. Constitution.

Should that be done only at ur convenience?

Let's lean in to the constitution and show how it is very perfect in all instances.

There is no deflection here.

Wow.... you even picked text from a book that pertains only to a people called Israelites who once lived in a land called Canaan under a God who ruled over them because according to Him they are His only people?

Is it me or any wonder nothing that Nigerians — not Israelites—take from that book seems to work out in their favor? Again, most of your politicians, scammers-in-the-lords(imams and alfas included), policemen, traditional rulers, etc., were all likely flogged since the vast majority of them grew up under the Nigerian Education system—not the Israelite-Canaan system— and the vast majority of them are criminals. Well, of course, we have you telling us that they are all cool-headed as a result of the flogging they received. But they are vastly criminals nonetheless.

But let's be honest, with all the floggings carried out in Nigeria, our society can't be compared to others who don't flog. Can you explain? With all the floggings we still have bandits, ritual killers, yahoo boys, corrupt politicians abi they were not flogged when they were young?

I'm not against correction but anyone who thinks flogging kids would make the society better is just a clown.

Even as adults, we make mistakes but how many times have we been flogged because of it?
Someone up there said he flogs his student if they can't recite the multiplication table. Did any of his lecturers flog a student in uni because they couldn't answer a question?
One thing about humans is when we see persons who can't possibly talk back or defend themselves we always want to use that as an advantage.
Everyday you see adults around you f*cking up in society. If e sure for anybody, carry cane dey flog your fellow adult then see wetin go sup.

The only thing i want to say to u is this, the east and the west have this culture of flogging children who go contrary to basic rules of the school.

That is the land of my birth (lagos) and I don't regret ever being flogged while I was schooling. Children need to be watched by teachers and this would help them to respect authority and elders.

Except u want ur children to behave like Yarimo of nairaland one other bunkum here whose name starts with H then u may be screwed in time to come.

Every child deserves discipline...don't be too emotional about it as Lagos, would demystify everything u have known before.

Has far their are no marks on there body then no problem. If the teachers can't discipline your children then who will? This how we raise undisciplined kids. I will give teachers go ahead to beat my kids but don't put marks on them. Forming woke patents won't help them, let the teachers do their job.
FameGlory(f): 10:32am On Feb 14
So you want to go and fight the teachers for flogging your children?

Did you ask what the children did?

When you were a child in the village and teachers flogged you then, did you parents go and fight them?

Gone are the days when kids were disciplined.

You see this new generation parents, they are the ones spoiling children.

Nonsense.
