Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has said that President Bola Tinubu is not T-Pain as commonly called on social media; instead, he feels the pain of Nigerians.

Onanuga refuted claims of the president not having feeling, asserting that the President understands the challenges Nigerians face and is committed to improving their situation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, on October 27, 2024 Onanuga addressed social media criticism, specifically the nickname “T-pain” that some have assigned to Tinubu.

He dismissed this as “mischievous,” emphasizing that Tinubu has not taken office to bring hardship but rather to rebuild Nigeria’s economy.

Onanuga said, “Some people have also responded and called the President a different name. So, as far as I am concerned, it is a non-issue.

“Some people, out of mischief, just say somebody is a T-pain; he (Tinubu) is not T-pain.

“The President has never shied away from telling Nigerians that he feels their pain and he is working very hard to make sure that he gives them some relief so that things will get better and this country will get more prosperity.”

He said despite galloping inflation, “we are experiencing economic growth, despite inflation, revenues have increased”.

Nigerians are grappling with the weight of unprecedented food inflation, and energy prices which have quadrupled in the last year.

Many people have blamed the twin policies of petrol subsidy removal and unification of forex rates for the high living costs that have assailed the middle class.

Citizens have staged two major protests to drive home their grievances against the Tinubu istration and pressured the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to reverse its “reforms” but the current istration has insisted that its policies are necessary and won’t be reversed.

Pa Onanuga should just keep quiet jare. Chochocho on top nothing. Even Umahi has been receiving knocks on his head by the NAss. Umahi said no money to fix roads, l'obatan. I didn't know the meaning of T-pain until when I travelled to ekiti , my maternal grandma's state the upper week. The state of the roads was worrisome, with trailers stuck in the middle of the road.

There's a town called Itawure, shortly after Efon Alaaye. From that place down to Aramoko is terribly bad. It's not able at all. Meanwhile there's a billboard of the governor asking for a vote for a 2nd time everywhere. My SUV really suffered. Vehicles abandoned that road for okemesi-ikoro-ijero axis, very long a road. I wonder what the offence of the indigenes of ekiti is, for voting the governor and his party apc, to deserve such punishment. Thank God they're in power else, you'd have been seeing Billboards with THIS IS A FEDERAL ROAD, PLEASE BEAR WITH US writing at each kilometre. Who would they now hold responsible for their failure to fix ordinary road?

Ekiti state governor should bury his shame and approach Fayose and ask how he did it in his time by fixing ekiti fed and state roads, even as an opposition governor. Abi e too wan save money to build university in Ghana? God is watching.

It's disheartening to see our country struggling economically every day. Instead of addressing these issues, APC leaders are more focused on petty politics, especially when Peter Obi isn't around to call them out. It's frustrating to see them diverting attention from real problems and targeting the non real issues. We need leaders who will take responsibility and work towards progress, not ones who only boast about being Nigerian.
