The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for a probe into a post made by @Lagospedia on X (formerly Twitter), calling on the Igbo to vacate Lagos and the South-West.

The post which was posted on July 27, 2024, asking Lagosians to brace for a massive #IgboMustGo protest from August 20 to 30, 2024, has since generated controversy on social media.

The Governor while condemning the post through his media aide, Gboyega Akosile, in a statement late Thursday, noted that the governor and indeed, the Lagos State Government “wish to distance themselves from the reckless, divisive and dangerous rhetoric, saying Lagos remains home to every Nigerian citizen regardless of their ethnic nationality.”

According to him, Sanwo-Olu views the post as not only reckless and divisive but also an attempt to sow a seed of discord between the Yoruba in the South-West and other tribes, “especially those who have made Lagos their permanent place of abode.”

“The governor appeals to Lagosians not to allow any person or group of individuals to create tensions in the state, calling on the security agencies to promptly investigate those behind the handle and bring them to justice.

“Mr Governor ens Lagosians to ignore the post and any post of that nature, promising to double his efforts towards ensuring lasting peace in the state,” Akosile said.

Please help should be in trouble... I am Yoruba and I won't be happy if that guy is not properly dealt with.. we Yorubas have to be truthful and stop being delusional. No Igbo called for any protest. Igbos have learnt that they are always on the recieving end of every bad thing in this country and cautioned themselves not to protest yet some unreasonable elements still traced this protest to Igbos... The main people who are the Hausas who are leading this why is not one talking to them? They are scared because of election, they feel the Hausas have the numbers so that can't face them

If we count under that tweet I'm sure it won't be up to 100 persons ing it. I'm very sure just as many have condemned it. You can't use a few peoples' actions to taint an entire tribe. There are bad apples everywhere. And it's just common sense to observe that if the majority of Yorubas indeed thought that way south easterners would be able to live in peace in the southwest, as many do indeed.
