Thanks for your response. I'm really torn on what to get. The accord is more spacious and better ground clearance. The 06 civic is smaller and too low.

Pls how long does the ball t last before you change it and can you source for it in Nigeria (OEM) thanks

I can't really say how long a ball t would last because I guess it depends on a number of factors e.g. Are there other failed suspension components putting unnecessary stress on the ball ts, the kinds of bad road driven etc. Try to replace worn suspension components on time.

When mine developed the warning signs maybe around 170k miles. After I changed it with OEM, I drove it till 265k miles when I sold the car without any problems. During my routine inspections there was no wear either.

I doubt you can get OEM locally. I had to buy mine from hondapartsnow.com or was it Amazon? It was pricey about $70 each and this was around 2015. I'll do it again if required because nothing beats peace of mind with cars.

The results are in!
Very clearly, Dangote's fuel is the best in the country.

PICTURE 1: Top of one of the pistons from my 2017 Accord. I was getting fuel from NNPC and other rubbish outlets when I took this borescope shot. The piston is coated with brownish impurities from the fuel. I think it's from heavy sulphur content of the fuel.

PICTURE 2: After my first tank of Dangote fuel bought from MRS filling station. You can see the brownish stuff is being cleared from the piston crown.

I think NNPC outlets have some of the worst fuel.

Personally, I prefer dangote petrol than that rubbish red sold way back. That red fuel gives my engine a rattling sound at the top reduce engine power.

My observation though

Totally agree with you.

I now only buy from stations I know that carry Dangote fuel. Still observing. I was buying from MRS one day and asked the attendant to dispense a sample into a clear bottle, stuff was colourless!

Those using performance cars are spending even more buying octane boosters and injector cleaners at each refill…
Some Cars will send their owners back to village in this Tinubu regime.

I had to start using a fuel system cleaner that comes in a liter and you add in aliquots to every fill up. This is the only thing keeping my car from having knocks after every couple thousand miles.
Piyke: 8:38pm On Nov 30, 2024
Current look of the piston top after more time on Naija fuel diet. The amount of brownish impurities is just horrible. This is not even up to 2 months after getting the car

Piyke: 8:35pm On Nov 30, 2024
2nd examination after a couple weeks on our petrol... You can already see some impurities developing as highlighted.

Piyke: 8:32pm On Nov 30, 2024
To buttress the point on the low quality of fuel, here are pictures from the combustion chamber of a car I examined. Car was bought Tokunbo.

This is the 1st footage upon getting the car. You can see there are no brownish impurities

Piyke: 8:37am On Nov 29, 2024
I'm not talking of improving supply and having cheaper pricing. This is about having cleaner fuel.

Just from my time looking into combustion chambers over the years, it's clear quality of fuel here is not great. Lots of impurities.

More posts to come.

So I’m a final year student of Business istration looking to migrate after graduation(through study route). I have been told that that degree makes me a glorified clerk abroad.

I laid my hands on tech(web development). The saturation and absence of entry level roles threw me off. Also, I don’t enjoy it, I went into it because I heard it’s lucrative.
I regret not studying a STEM course, but there’s no need crying over spilt milk.

So far, I’m considering a career in Audit, management consulting, and investment banking.
I need ideas on what step to take next and which countries I should look towards please.

Whatever decision you end up with, be sure to pursue a career in something you love doing. It pays off in the end.

Just getting to this heart-wrenching news. What a loss to Nigeria.
I met Gazzuzz once. Had the pleasure of visiting his workshop. What a day it was. In the end, I recall he paid for my Uber ride back, despite my pleas to him not to. I am pained.

For us left down here, please make peace with Jesus. Salvation is free.

Guys! I have a 2018 Acura MDX Advance with 360 camera and recently the front camera was replaced due to a collision. Now all the cameras including the reverse camera are not working because they have to be calibrated using Scantool. Unfortunately one also needs an active Honda/Acura service subscription. Does anyone know a workshop in Lagos that has all these tools?
I can be reached on 08033257442

Hey, I did see your PM, but Nairaland reply on private messages is buggy and I always get a failed delivery notice. Cc' @seun
Hopefully you've seen my reply to Mexxy. Thought to reach out so it doesn't look like I was ignoring you. Cheers and all the best. If you get it sorted, let us know where.

If your search is on Nairaland:

For Lagos, try @Radautoworks and @Gazzuzz

Abuja @Kingreign

Also, @Piyke (usually has tools and good DIY abilities, and has good knowledge of Honda's)

These persons can point you where to find if they're unable to do it or lack the tools.

Thanks @mexxy1. ADAS calibrations require some advanced stuff that can only fit in a garage. My DIY level is yet to reach dia angry grin.
While a scan tool may ADAS caliberation, you still need those crucifix-style alignment machines to complete the calibration. I think Radautoworks has ADAS... Aye?

Old post though but where can I get this filter?
Most mechanics always say the filter is inside the transmission.

Depends on the car. Though most and I think this one too has an internal filter in addition to the external one. I got OEM from Amazon or hondapartsnow.com I believe. New Chinese ones are sold in the local car parts markets

So did the replacement fix any problems for you?

It was preventive

Old post, but I have a question.
Are you saying there's no internal filter on this car?
I'm having an issue with mine and the technician says they will drop the gearbox, tear it apart, so they can change the filter. I'm not understanding.

I'm not sure. I never took my transmission pan off.

This very common car soap makes good foam

Piyke: 5:11pm On Nov 27, 2023
I upgraded my pressure washer some months back to integrate an aftermarket foam canon. It's been amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6jt0EyR8O8

The good thing is that I've found a locally manufactured car shampoo that makes really good foam.

Do you snow foam your car?

How much did you get this and what's the brand?
I see a lot of fake jacks in the market.

It's the Selpro brand. Made in Taiwan. 140k.

Yea. I saw a low of Chinese brands which I couldn't vouch for. Also saw the Ingco brand which has a reputation among Chinese tools. I didn't go with Ingco because it didn't have a long handle. Also, I don't like yellow as a colour on jacks sad

it's not about money. It's awareness. Most car owners depend on their illiterate mechanics.

Nail on the head.

I in 2010 or so, I was at my then mechanic. At his neighbours setup, a 2007 - 2011 Toyota Camry just had an oil change and one of those oil treatment concoctions was being added to the car.
Guy was definitely rich to afford a current model Camry at the time. Just imagine what the combo of consistent 20w-50 + thick oil treatment would have done to the engine.

even 2014 corolla and above run on cvt. It gives better fuel economy. Just do routine maintenance. I see a lot of corolla being sold in future as Nigerians are not maintenance conscious. They will run these cvts without changing fluid. When it becomes problematic, they run ATF in them and finish them up.

Your last sentence really cracked me up 🤣. It may even be Seahorse or Dozzy oil ATF. cheesy

I would like to know as well. Because the prices that these car dealers are calling are truly ridiculous. Like why would I buy accidented 2014 sport with cloth seats for 8m.

Have you tried to buy dollar recently? The price will only go higher with the way things are going.

I don't think I can get used to the rubber band feel of a CVT, plus, in my own opinion, it feels slooooowwww grin grin

In reality it's faster than you think it is.

Where is the road to enjoy these cars? angry If road is good, traffic rears it's ugly head angry angry

On topic, difference isn't too much if driven in Sport (when you want to feel fly cheesy). Some manufacturers have tweaked the software side of things to mimic the feel you get from an automatic.
