Celestialsword:
This is not a good business in Nigeria, many have tried it and failed.
This is why I hate Nairaland. People will always discourage someone.
This was the reason they always add it to an already running business in the same niche.e.h, betting, phone charging etc
I’ve seen sole game houses stand on their own. Adding a side business is a benefit to any hustle. Oil company no go mind run catering on the side. Money is addictive.
The business doesn't have the capacity to sustain itself as the clientele are usually teenagers
If this was the reason, Hollywood would not release movies for children. Younger folks are bigger spenders than adults. Adults have responsibilities, hence many avenues to spend their money. Children and the like only want to be entertained. They will channel their parents’ money into whatever they find engaging.
I know someone who used his game centre business to train himself and his younger sister through school. He made good money while at it. He ed the business down to his sister to manage when he felt time had reached to enter a proper 9 - 5.

You will make money. You will make money quickly. This is Nairaland, I’m expecting you to back off from the idea no matter how much advice we’ll give you.
Your two greatest challenges will be power generation and maintenance. Learn how to dismantle and fix video game consoles. Since you’ll use PS3 and PS4 consoles, you won’t need to focus on cleaning lenses. the needed games into hard drives.
To be profitable, do not allow people play on credit. Have enough games and consoles to cater for as many customers possible. Some people prefer single player games. Don’t complain when one person hogs a system which should serve two people due to it.
Vando:
I’m planning to start a small game center in my area.
I noticed there are a lot of young people here — students, apprentices, hustlers, and no game center around. The few shops that run games are mostly betting shops and people go there often too.
I’m thinking of setting up with just 4 TVs (2 PS3, 2 PS4), clean space, some good branding, and a solid vibe. I want to make it feel fresh.”
I’ll also add soft drinks, light snacks, and probably a place where they pay to charge as well.
My goal is not just to make money, but to build a place where people feel relaxed, competitive, and connected — like the game houses we grew up around, but cleaner.
Please:
What do you think of this idea?
What challenges should I expect?
What should i do to ensure I'm profitable?

The company entered profit mode in 2019. That was impressive. With their promotion at the time, I assumed it was doing well. COVID hit them, so? COVID destabilized many industries. Many are still reeling from its effect today. Sha, a lesson was learned from everything, he learned how to make money from the Nigerian market. We’re 230 million human beings as I type this. AuthegaPRIMUS:
Summary 😒😒
Jason Njoku, founder of iROKOtv, reflected candidly on the platform’s 15-year journey and its struggle to succeed in Nigeria's challenging streaming landscape. Launched in 2011, iROKOtv attracted major global investors like Tiger Global and spent over $100 million trying to build a viable streaming business in Nigeria. However, due to expensive data, poor payment infrastructure, and limited consumer spending power, the company remained in "survival mode" for a decade.
Despite aggressive efforts—such as deploying kiosks, building content libraries, and targeting diaspora markets—iROKOtv couldn’t compete effectively with global players like Netflix, Amazon, and Showmax, who collectively spent over $1 billion in Africa from 2015–2023. Njoku itted that, in hindsight, the Nigerian market was not mature enough to a $5/month service model.
While the streaming arm struggled, iROKOtv’s ROK Studios—focused on content production and TV distribution—proved successful, representing 80% of the company’s revenue. In 2019, a $25 million partial exit to Canal+ allowed the company to realize profits, but subsequent reinvestment into the local market post-COVID wiped out much of that gain.
By 2023, Njoku and his team exited the Nigerian streaming market, conceding it wasn't viable. He now believes the real value in Nollywood lies in content creation, channels, and distribution—not streaming. Reflecting on costly lessons, Njoku cautions other founders against over-raising and misjudging market readiness. He concluded that billions were wasted across the industry trying to force a model that didn’t fit Nigeria’s economic realities, reinforcing the importance of strategic discipline and realistic market assessment.

If Nigerians predicted it, it is false. We’re terrible in concluding people in relationships. Oyibo media knows all the signs of a blossoming partnership right from the undecided stage of the union. It’s an art form for them.

BlackViper:
A Nigerian Army officer has accused Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General A.E. Abubakar, of abandoning communities under attack by suspected herdsmen while focusing on building projects for the same groups.
In a viral video clip seen by SaharaReporters, the officer alleged that despite receiving reports of attacks and killings, the general did nothing to protect the victims.
He alleged that the military leadership under Abubakar prioritised constructing schools and boreholes for Fulani communities, even as villages were being burned and civilians killed. The officer said angry villagers had turned against soldiers, accusing them of doing nothing while their communities were destroyed.
The unnamed soldier said, “Major General A.E Abubakar, if you find this video, the reason why I'm dragging you is because you are not doing well.”
“When Fulani herdsmen were threatening soldiers in Plateau State, you heard about the issue, they reported the case to your table, but you did not do anything.
“When the people of Mangu began attacking soldiers, when they attacked us that night, they thought we were Ammo, not knowing we were special forces.
“You didn't do anything when Fulani began to attack village after village, you heard them because they were brought to your table, you did not do anything. And I look and say, ‘What is this man's mission?’
“The villagers are crying, saying Fulani are attacking their villages, burning their houses, and you didn't do anything.”
The soldier further alleged that the Army had turned soldiers into labourers, building boreholes and schools in the bush for Fulani communities, while ignoring the suffering of displaced residents. He questioned why no rehabilitation centres were built for those whose homes had been destroyed.
“You are doing contract work; you are military personnel. What concern military personnel with projects when Fulani destroy people, burn people's houses. You people are busy building schools and boreholes for Fulani.
“Then the villagers are angry and stoning us that the Army is not doing anything.
“What concerns the Army with politics? Look at how you people have rubbished the Nigerian Army, why and how will insecurity end in Nigeria?”
The officer said he could no longer remain silent because villagers were crying to soldiers, complaining of killings and destruction by suspected herdsmen, while the military was allegedly busy carrying out development work for the attackers.
He said, “I can't keep quiet because the villagers are crying in our ears, hearing them saying the Fulani are killing them and burning their houses. Then you people engage in building schools and boreholes inside bushes for Fulani.
“It is we the labourers, we that you have turned to labourers. It is we that the civilians are stoning and abusing.
“Why don't you build rehabilitation centres for the people who Fulani destroyed their homes?
“You are a bad leader, Major General A.E. Abubakar. You destroyed Plateau State, and now you have entered Maiduguri, where they made you a theatre commander. Attacks begin to happen here and there. Who are you, Major General Abubakar?
“You are a wicked officer. You people are bad. You are not ready to make Nigeria good.
“Only way you will know is that when they go to each place, they become commanding officers and start collecting money for their pockets.
“Do you know how many properties you have in Nigeria?”
“How much is your salary and how much is the entitlement?”
“And even your children, your wife, they are going to a better school.”
“So, the army that you are pushing to go and die, we are not enjoying all those things.
“How many soldiers died under your command when you were General Officer Commanding (GOC)? What did you do?”
“Did you give a clear rank command that soldiers should clear everywhere? No, because you are Fulani. You are in of the Fulani.
“Fulani go (will) bomb people's houses, kill people and you don't have anything to do".
SaharaReporters' calls to the Nigerian Army Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele, were not reachable and messages were not answered as at the time of filing this report.
