Most of you Nigerians lack morals.

Your morals and humanity are in the gutter.

A sovereign nation just suffered an unprovoked attack of airstrikes that killed many people including children.

And just because they are muslims, it means nothing to you, as you insult their leader for vowing retaliation.

And tomorrow you will go to church and be shouting Jesus?

Your morals are in the gutter.

And OP thinks thatched roofs started from Africa!

They did.

We blacks must always blame the whites for everything
So it's the whites that told you to stop using it in africa or Africans saw a better luxury and decided to switch

Let's keep blaming them, since we are too irresponsible to own up to anything

You need to go and study the colonial impact on Nigerian society. Many norms, from religion to language to public istration systems to trade networks, to traditional educational systems were suppressed or dismantled in favour of colonial systems designed to favour colonial interests.

Corrugated iron and zinc imported from England would have been been presented to the 'natives' as the 'best, modern option', ignoring and downplaying the benefits and aesthetics of thatched roofing. Enriching British businesses. Thatch? No money in that for them. Every man could make his own roof. Much better to have them Buy their roofing from UK.

It's called social engineering for profit by force of colonial power.

According to AI

''The widespread importation of British zinc roofing sheets during colonial rule disrupted and devalued traditional African thatching industries, especially in places like Nigeria. Here's how and why:

🔄 1. Economic Displacement of Local Thatchers

Before colonialism:

Thatched roofing (from grass, palm fronds, raffia, etc.) was a vibrant indigenous craft, with skilled thatchers providing roofing services for homes, palaces, shrines, and granaries.

These artisans had seasonal work cycles, community status, and deep spiritual and architectural knowledge.

After zinc imports:

British firms brought in mass-produced, “modern” roofing sheets, often subsidized or made accessible through colonial trade networks.

By the 1920s–40s, zinc roofs became widespread among:

Mission buildings

Schools

Courthouses

Wealthy elites’ homes

Result: demand for thatching plummeted, especially in urban and semi-urban areas.

đź‘‘ 2. Zinc as a Colonial Status Symbol
British authorities promoted zinc roofing as a sign of “progress,” “cleanliness,” and "civilization."

African elites (chiefs, traders, converts, civil servants) were encouraged to abandon thatch to display their allegiance to Western modernity.

Thatch was increasingly mocked as backward or unhygienic — despite being:

Cooler in hot weather

Cheaper

Locally sustainable

This created a class divide where zinc = elite and thatch = poor.

⚠️ 3. British Trade Policy Favored Foreign Goods
Colonial economic systems favored imports from Britain rather than developing or protecting local industries.

No or innovation was offered to thatching, which remained informal and unregulated.

British firms like UAC used their influence to dominate material supply chains — from roofing sheets to nails and tools — sidelining indigenous crafts.

🔥 4. Cultural Consequences
In many communities, thatching was tied to rituals, apprenticeship systems, and seasonal festivals.

The collapse of demand led to cultural erosion, as younger generations stopped learning the craft.

Sacred buildings and ancestral homes were sometimes retrofitted with zinc, disrupting symbolic or spiritual meanings tied to natural materials.

🧭 Final Thought
Yes, British zinc imports during colonialism disrupted traditional African thatching economies, replacing a skilled, sustainable, and culturally rooted practice with imported industrial material—and reshaping not just the skyline, but the social order.''

Benin - The Mighty African Wall That Stunned Europe

When Europeans first arrived Benin city in the 1400s, they were astonished to find the city and the wider kingdom encomed by a giant wall and rampart system. Expertly engineered. According to the UK Guardian, the Benin wall was ''four times longer than the Great Wall of China''. And the 1982 Guinness Book or Records hailed it as ''the largest earthworks carried out prior to the mechanical era''.

Large sections of the wall especially the grandly decorated royal wall around Benin City, were destroyed by British invaders following their destruction of the great city in 1897.

Technologies that haven't been used where they're most needed in health, education, fight against corruption, insecurity, etc, will suddenly be used in monitoring fenced borders?
Borders separating northerners from people theĂ˝ believe are their brothers!
Fence that they'll pull down as it's being constructed?!

Well, you're free to waste your faith on something you know will never happen.

A Nigeria that cannot take care of her unfenced borders despite the huge influx of migrants and criminals will never suddenly begin to monitor it after managing to fence it.

I don't know how old you are and if you're being moved by sentiments, but i have been in this world for over 40yrs to know what can and what cannot happen in Nigeria

Your being over 40 doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.

You have no idea what technology will be deployed or even the nature of materials to be used for the fencing - all of which will determine the level of monitoring that will be required.

You know none of the details. All you know is that ''because it is Nigeria, it won't work''.

That's all you have to offer.

So your presence here is pretty much useless.

Imagine how far we would have developed if we had been transferring that knowledge since 1900 till now...that's hundreds of years of modernisation.

But how come they conquered "us"? Did they eventually come into superior powers and subjugated Africa for that long.
Africa is supposed to have that moorish seed of greatness naturally.

What happened, how did the script flip...including the transition from empires to world leaders.

The only reason Europeans, who were the most backward race, conquered the rest of the world, not just Africa, was that around the 17th century, they saw the Chinese using native gunpowder mixtures to make fireworks at their festivals.

The Chinese had actually built the first 'firearms' using native gunpowder, which were really just explosives to scare an enemy on the battlefield, such that once you hear the 'boom', you would pick race and the war would end.

The Chinese knew they could make them into weapons of mass destruction (ie guns, bombs etc), but they refused to mass produce them out of a sense of moral responsibility in a world that had used iron weapons for thousands of years prior.

The Chinese were highly religious Buddhists, so they were never going to mass produce firearms to conquer other lands, and in any case they were self-sufficient.

It was European leaders that saw the potential of this gunpowder mixture, and dreamt of how they could use it to overturn the status quo.

They then went about producing guns and bombs etc, and kept perfecting it until a time came when they could invade any country on Earth and defeat them easily.

And this they did. They were ruthless, greedy, and unbound by the moralistic spirituality of the far more prosperous Africans, Chinese, Mexicans, Indians etc.

The rest is history.

It's one of the reasons why I rejected christianity many years ago.

How can barbarians with no morals teach me about God?

Who wrote that thing they call bible?

Why should you trust anything they tell you or give you to read as ''holy''?

Holy what?

There are statues of the black West African Moors all over European cities.

Without these Moors, who ruled large parts of Europe from the 7th to the 15th centuries (800 years+), Europe would have been worse than Afghanistan today.

This is how a president should be. Sound and witty. I give it to South African president.

Compare to what we have at home. It's a sorry state. We're yet to have a president who is very sound and could represent us well.

Nigeria has a long way to go due to tribalism and religious bigotry eating Deep the very fabric of our nationhood.

Leadership is not about speaking Queen's English.

President Xi Jinping of China speaks only his native language, and gets things done.

Prime Minister Modhi of India's English is terrible, and he speaks Hindi most of the time.

You Nigerians need to change your mentality.
