“Tinubu’s tax reform policy is for the best of Nigeria. Having spent more than 10 years in the Senate and as a member of different committees, I can tell you that I know more about how things operate.





“These reforms are for the good people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; now we can say that we have an economy that is not guided by a selected few.



“When Tinubu assumed office in 2023 we had holistic and drastic changes of tax laws and that is yielding positive results already. That is why as your representative, I am in of these policies. I want to specifically thank Mr. President for a job well-done”, he submitted.



On the empowerment programme, he explained that the objective is to give back to his constituents as a form of gratitude for their belief in his capacity to represent them at the National Assembly.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was absent when the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) met in Abuja on Saturday night, Alexa News Nigeria reports. The meeting was to welcome new entrants into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but Oborevwori, who recently teamed up with the party, did not attend. Oborevwori, who swept to victory in 2023 under the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, dumped the party earlier in the week, citing several factors.



The governor, his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP in the South-South state said they are collapsing their structure into the leading APC, which they argue serves as a better platform for the oil-rich state.



Other persons who attended the meeting include Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North; the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo; a former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege; APC scribe, Felix Morka; a former governorship candidate in Delta State, Great Ogboru, and other of the National Assembly.



Saturday’s meeting was held at the Imo Governors’ Lodge in the nation’s capital.



The recent wave of defections from the PDP to the APC has stirred debates among observers, politicians, and Nigerians alike.



With Okowa, a ranking member of the PDP who was the party’s vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election, ing APC, analysts argue that the most recent defections are a big blow to the main opposition party’s move to retake power in 2027.



But some PDP chieftains, including Bode George, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, are unmoved by the development.

Almost 200 people have been injured in an explosion at a port in southern Iran as Iranian and US officials began a third round of nuclear talks in Oman.



It remains unclear what caused the explosion. A large explosion rocked Shahid Rajaee port in Iran's southern city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday, with at least 195 people injured after the blast, state media reported.

"The cause of this incident was the explosion of several containers stored in the Shahid Rajaee Port wharf area. We are currently evacuating and transferring the injured to medical centres," a local crisis management official told state TV.



Semi-official Tasnim news agency added that the port's activities were suspended to extinguish the fire and that considering the large number of port employees "many people were probably injured or even killed in the incident."

The blast shattered windows within a radius of several kilometres, Iranian media said, with footage shared online showing a mushroom cloud forming following the explosion.



In 2020, computers at the same port were hit by a cyberattack that caused massive backups on waterways and roads leading to the facility. The Washington Post had reported that Iran's arch-foe Israel appeared to be behind that incident as retaliation for an earlier Iranian cyberattack.
