For the 8th time in 2024, Nigeria’s power grid collapsed early Saturday, plunging millions of households and businesses into darkness. The incessant collapse has sparked widespread frustration and outrage across the country, with many calling for urgent action to address the persistent power supply crisis.

The National Grid, which is managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has experienced 105 collapses in the last decade despite the billions of dollars approved as loans for the electricity sector. In the current istration alone, the electricity sector has secured loans over $1bn from different financial groups. In December 2023, the World Bank approved the $750 million distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project in Nigeria. In July 2024, the African Development Bank Group, AfDB, approved a loan of $ 500 million to Nigeria to help transform the country’s electricity infrastructure and improve access to cleaner energy resources.

Nigeria has secured at least $1.25 billion in loans from the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to boost electricity supply under the istration of President Bola Tinubu.

The collapse has affected major cities, including Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, with reports of power outages in several states. The outage has disrupted economic activities, causing losses for businesses and impacting services.

According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, “the recent escalating incidence of grid disturbances often leading to marked outage in several states thus reversing many of the gains recently achieved in reducing infrastructure deficit and improving grid stability.”

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu while talking on the matter of the grid collapse at the unveiling of Hexing Livoltek, says that there different regions and states needs to have power grid to end the incessant grid collapses.

Also, the minister noted that the collapsing of the grids is nearly inevitable in the country, given the deplorable state of the country’s power infrastructure.

Some Nigerians have expressed distaste on the incessant grid collapse. Pat Utomi, in his X handle, wrote, “It is raining misery in Nigeria. Every call I received today burdened my soul. How many collapses of the national power grid can any system tolerate. Road travel has been abandoned, according to a friend in PH because you are not sure the greater danger; police, thieves or bandits when you journey by road, and flying has been priced out of reach as inflation drags the middle class into multidimensional poverty”

Also, one David Offor on his X handles wrote, “Within one year Minister Adebayo Adelabu has been able to increase our Power capacity from about 4000 megawatts to 5,500 megawatts now, targeting 6,000 megawatts by December. When he said we should give time and we would be switching off our fridges, he meant it.”

However, the latest news from the Nigeria National Grid from the X handle says that TCN is expected to complete the repair of faulty lines today.

Recall that The Transmission Company Nigeria had earlier announced that two towers along it 330KV Shiroro-Kaduna Transmission lines one and two have vandalised damaging parts of both transmission lines.

As Nigeria struggles to provide stable electricity to its citizens, the economic and social implications of the grid collapse can not be overstated. The federal government must take urgent action to address the root causes of the problem and invest in modernizing the power infrastructure.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) to commence remittances pay-out in Naira to beneficiaries, in addition to foreign exchange.

It has also directed that the Investors and Exporters’ Window foreign exchange rate should be used in determining the rate for such Naira pay-out.

These were contained in a CBN circular referenced: FED/FEM/PUB/FPC/001/004 issued by the Director of Trade and Exchange. Dr. Ozoemena Nnaji.

The new circular, dated July 10, 2023, according to CBN, was in furtherance to an earlier circular dated November 30, 2022 with reference number: FED/FEM/FPC/01/011 which provided guidelines on the payout policy of Diaspora remittances to beneficiaries back home.

That November 30, 2022 circular introduced the payment of dollars to beneficiaries of diaspora remittances through the international money transfer operators (IMTO) through the designated bank of their choice and with unrestricted access to their funds

According to the new circular, the Naira payment was only an option, in addition to United States Dollars and E-Naira in receiving Diaspora remittances.

The Circular reads in full, “Further to the circular referenced FED/FEM/FPC/01/011 dated November 30, 2022 in respect of the above subject, the Central Bank of Nigeria hereby announces Naira as a payout option for receipts of proceeds of International Money Transfers.

“Accordingly, all recipients of Diaspora remittances through the CBN-approved International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) on the attached list shall henceforth have the option of receiving Naira payment in addition to USD and e-Naira as payout options.

“For the avoidance of doubt, IMTOs are required to pau out the proceeds using the Investors’ & Exporters’ window rate as the anchor rate on the date of the transaction.

“The regulation takes effect immediately.”

Recall that CBN had, mid last month, announced the unification of all segments of the Nigerian forex market by collapsing all windows into the Investors & Exporters (I&E) window.

The move was considered part of the new istration’s efforts to improve liquidity and stability in the market by attracting foreign investors into the Nigerian economy.

Further the apex bank stopped the RT200 programme and the Naira4dollar remittance scheme, last month.

Under scheme introduced in 2021, the CBN, through commercial banks, paid to remittance recipients the incentive of N5 for every USD1 remitted by sender and collected by designated beneficiary.

The Naira4Dollar scheme was to incentivise remittances from Nigerians in the Diaspora and was indeed considered successful, as encouraged more remittances and a steady foreign exchange inflow into the country.

The RT200 which comprised a set of plans, policies, and programmes was designed to increase the nation’s earnings exclusively from non-oil exports to $200 billion in foreign exchange repatriation, within the next five years.

Sorry to hear that. You know sometimes it's not a matter of guru or anything like that. As you observed, scammers have taken over so sometimes when one offers help it's easy to be branded a scammer as well. That's why it's easier to respect one self and stay quiet sometimes.

From the little I know, there's absolutely no need to bring in the CAC angle. She's a legitimate worker and earner, so that puts you in good stead to justify whatever has been paying through her bank . These last minute registrations of a hitherto nonexistent entity only lead us to shooting ourselves in the foot, because these embassy guys are always ahead of us and have seen all the tricks in the book. Long story short, no need to business now.
You can use both s in collaboration, but you have to specify in the application that you are co-sponsoring between yourself and your mother. As long as both of your s have been having traffic at least six months back, that's sufficient. All you need now is make sure they have a healthy closing balance as at when you appear for your interview.

Sis I think it is best to stick with what has has a long track record of inflows and outflows, dating back at least 6 months. Anything done fresh is usually a telltale sign that you're hurriedly making things up solely because of the visa application. But hey what do I know? I'm just telling from me and my bro experience applying for this study visa. As for legalization and appointment, these are things you can do for yourself, but if you're looking to matriculate this September or October, time may be against you so I understand why you may need the plug. You may read through the previous two pages of this thread to find help with that. Just do your best not to be scammed cos babe these guys aren't smiling so be wary.

i waited and waited hoping to get visa interview appointment date, all to no avail. so i asked for my tuition refund, which the school refunded back my money. so i ignored anything call Poland and moved on with my life.
