I am afraid you gave your friend very terrible advice there. Your friend was very much aware that the woman he had dated and planned to marry would turn out to be one he would have needed to bankroll for pretty much all of the marriage financially. He wanted a woman of that kind—one who would like as his dependant, aka liability— and that is what you now robbed him of.

Technically, all you did was just ruin his relationship with Amara, who may have actually loved him. His next woman is likely to be another liability though. So, I don't see why you are out her patting yourself on the back, though.
