Wisdom For Destiny Daily Devotional *(1st June, 2025)* by *Sunday Akanni* TOPIC: Why Was King David Called A Man After God's Own Heart? Acts 13:22 NKJV [22] And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’ *Message* As Christians today, we have a lot to learn from the man David, a common sherpherd who rose to become Israel's greatest king. In the Bible, God repeatedly refers to David as a man after His own Heart. We are going to see some of the things he did that earned him that honourable divine title, alongside how Christians today can become brothers and sisters after God's own heart, too. I pray God opens our understanding. Amen. 1. First of all, David won God's heart by keeping God's commandments 1 Kings 14: 8. David was a lover of God's law and he made God's law his close companion. When the children of Israel were yet to enter the promised land; years before David was born; God knew the children of Israel would demand for a king someday, and He gave them certain principles for kingship (Deuteronomy 17:14-20). One of the principles is that: 'it (the book of the law) shall be with him (the king), and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes.' vs 19. This was something that contributed to David's success as a king, as well as his relationship with God. As Christians today, we must realise that for us to have a special place in God's heart, we must be committed to obeying God's commandments. You need to keep His instructions ionately, both the ones in scripture and those He tells you individually. Imitating King David's footsteps, you need to be a lover of God's word (the Bible). Study the bible regularly, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and live by it, and you will reside perpetually in God's heart. 2. David followed God wholeheartedly. David put God's will above his own will. He was always interested in the things of God (he even said he prefered to be in the house of God than any other place). He is always interested in knowing God's will before he takes any step (reference: 1 Samuel 30). To win God's heart, you need to give God your all (put your will under God's will). Anything God wants is what you want; anything God doesn't want you don't want it. It means, if you have an interest in pursuing a career, and God said,'I don't like this', you need to drop it. If you don't have interest in something and God said,'I want you to go after this', you need to go after it. That is what David did that made him a man after God's heart 3. David feared God. When Saul sinned against God, God removed him afterwards. When David sinned against God, God embraced him afterwards. Why? Because David acknowledged his sins due to the fear of God in him, and he sought repentance. David feared God and ruled with the fear of God- which pleased God. To be a Christian after God's own heart, inculcate the fear of God and let the fear of God shape the way you think, act, and behave. Then, God can boast of you to satan that 'This is one of my children whom I so much love'. God bless you all. *Prayers* Father in the Name of Jesus, I'm committed to pleasing You all through this new month. Amen *Further Reading* I Samuel 13:14 NKJV [14] But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.” 10 Likes 4 Shares |

Did David keep the commandments more than Saul? What commandments did Saul break? David a man after God's heart because he was broken hearted and merciful. Do you know how many times David broke the laws of Moses? 15 Likes 2 Shares |

David and Goliath! David and Bethsheba! David the adulterer! David the murderer of Uriah! God gave David the wives of his master! If God can give David wives, then why can't we marry wives? This biblical portrayal of David is ludicrous and notorious! 9 Likes 2 Shares |

David consistently obeyed God and sought to fulfill His will, even when faced with difficult circumstances. He demonstrated a willingness to follow God's instructions and a ionate love for God, making him a man who aligned with God's desires and purposes

David was called a man after God's heart because each time he sinned, he always realise and ask God for forgiveness. He never goes back to that sin again. Although he committed different atrocities but he often goes back to his creator to atone for them. Same thing God expects from Christian. Always it your sin, ask for forgiveness and ask for his grace never to go back to them again. It is not the number of times a man falls that matter, what matters is how many times he is able to pick himself up and continue.

Also, he was always humble and quick to repent even after being made king. He did not allow God's blessings to change him. At heart, he was always that obedient shepherd boy whom God loved, wether in the field tending sheep, or on the battlefield commanding his men or even in the palace, ruling a nation. But what do we really know? God loves who he loves. Jacob was a crook and a betrayer yet God loved him as well. 6 Likes 1 Share |

King David was described as a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14) because, despite his shortcomings, he consistently showed a deep alignment with God’s will. He was committed to carrying out God’s purposes, even when it was challenging, and he placed God's will above his own. David's love for God was evident in his wholehearted worship, his constant pursuit of God's word, and his ongoing meditation on it.

Node911: I understand your pain. It is because you dont know your ancestry. What if I told you that the original Jews of the bible were black? Yes. The bible is literally a book of your ancestry! Search out 'School of the Hebrews' on YouTube, you will find teachings and historical facts about the ancestry of the Jews, ed by the bible. Invest time and data in seeking knowledge. Even the recent photographs of Jesus released by the Russian president from their archives shows a black Jesus. The matter is long and the conspiracy is deep. ' My people perish for lack of knowledge '. Na so bible talk am. Stop being bitter and seek to understand. 6 Likes 1 Share |

David, a man after God's heart indeed. A murderer, adulterer like David was not punished for his sins. His unborn child was punished instead. Praise the Lord.

gohf: The write-up doesn't add up. Major sin Saul committed was disobedience. Apart, Saul was fulfilling the destiny of destruction already on the office he took up. I feel God is just God and is ways are not ours. He has folks he love and those he abhor. David fornicated, murdered, committed adultery and did every unthinkable thing. David story is why I don't judge. Some folks are just engraced. No matter what they do grace will still come through for them while some won't do quarter before they fall into the abyss. The Hitlers and society outcast might just be whom God loves and want. The reason behind the grace on David, no man can know. 9 Likes 1 Share |
