A yet-to-be identified female student of Seico Secondary School, Ikangba, Ijebu Ode has been confirmed dead and another severely injured, after a truck rammed into them while returning back from school.

The incident occurred on the newly rehabilitated Ikangba/Agoro road on Friday.

DAILY POST learnt that the students were returning home after finishing their West Africa Examination for Senior Secondary when the truck coming from Molipa end lost control and ram into the students coming from the opposite direction.

Giving an of the incident, a resident in the area and chairman of Ogun State chapter of Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights, Eko Nicholas, said the truck after running into the students crashed into the fence of a Redeemed church beside the road.

He said, “The students were obviously those writing this ongoing WASSCE because they were holding the question papers.

“One of the students, a female died on the spot while another female was also critically injured, we are all praying she make it.”

Nicholas, however, blamed the incessant accident on the failure of the government to help with road bumps or breakers that could easily help to check the reckless drivers plying the road.

He said “This is yet another needless deaths on the Ikangba/Agoro road, bringing the number of souls lost from February to six, including several ones that were injured.

“We again call on the state government to construct speed breakers and street lights to stem these avoidable and painful deaths.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, when ed confirmed the incident saying, “one school pupil died.”

R.I.P to the dead. The way young ones are been killed accidentally in recent times is of grave concern. May God help us. And the drivers and owners of the trucks will not be brought to book by relevant government authorities. Such trucks ought to be confiscated by government, while drivers should be prosecuted accordingly.

Why so much bloodshed recently?
Is this in preparation for 2027?

May the soul of the departed rest in peace. So sad. May the driver of the truck also the victim.

Every vehicles on Nigerian roads need to undergo safety checks and have a certification before going the road. Why is that it’s only in Nigeria that trucks keep loosing control?

The animal that drove the vehicle must be thoroughly dealt with. May the soul of the innocent girl rest in peace.

sad

All these things da happen cos them no da touch the drivers. Them go just murder person pikin and go free.
On most cases these drivers know that their vehicles are faulty and not fit to apply the roads they will still go on hoping they can manage. Until the day we rise up to the occasion where a soul go for a soul this nonsense will not stop.

Yes, I know they will say it's accident but some can be prevented. So drivers are reckless. Some of the over without rest and ended up sleeping while driving. Majority of are drunk

But why will a contractor rehabilitate a road and will not include speed breaker? Is that not madness

This is till part of corruption, when the project is not allocated to the proper company that knows what they are doing. RIP to the dead sha

Bad road, yes, but reckless driving would be the major reason for this accident.
EdiskyHarry: 10:10am On May 24
If there's any reckless sets of road s I have ever seen, they are "heavy duty vehicle drivers" . They are so reckless, they don't even consider the lives of other road s because they know very well if any collision occurs they are 100% safe.

This isn't due to bad road. The road at this particular location is tarred.
Bad driving caused it.

My church and my community in the News, may the Lord protect us all.
There's speed breakers from molipa to olorunsogo junction but I can only blame the driver or brake failure.
