Amotekun: Don’t betray South-West, Ooni tells personnel

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on personnel of the Western Nigeria Security Network known as ‘Operation Amotekun’ not to betray the region on the ideals behind setting up the security outfit.

Ogunwusi stated this on Thursday in Ibadan during the launch of Amotekun by the governors of the South-West region.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Amotekun was evolved by the governors in the South-West region to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police in tackling security challenges in the region.

The Ooni said that the governors in the region had done their best, adding that it was left for the personnel and the residents of the region to work together for the success of the security outfit.

“All the traditional rulers are in , the Federal Government is not opposed to it, let all and sundry it for peace to reign in the region.

“The success of this security outfit will be of benefit to the present generation and generations yet unborn,”he said.

The leader of the Yoruba World Congress, Prof. Banji Akintoye, said that the governors and the people of the region had risen up to the security challenge in the region.

“The people that will work in Amotekun are going to be trained properly by highly educated people for them to relate properly with the police and the army,” he said.

The National Public Relations Officer, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Prof. Nelson Fashina, said that his personnel were properly qualified for the security outfit.

Fashina said that the group was capable of taking up the responsibilities of community policing as were conversant with the terrain.

The governors present at the occasion were Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo and Seyi Makinde of Oyo while Osun and Ogun were represented by their deputies.

This is where you'll see Police come in soon and tell them they are there to do their job. Just follow this event and see the end of it. NPF are so useless that they won't work for you but want to claim the glory. Just very soon, police will clash with them just to foil their aims and objectives. I hope the SW governors stands on this.
When fulani are busy raping and killing police will pretend like they aren't aware even MOPOL... SARS are busy chasing Yahoo boys and killing innocent people.

Really . We joke and mess around too much in this country. Forming a new organization to combat crime instead of fixing the existing ones. So when these ones also fail, what will we do?
Whats so hard about eradicating kidnapping? Kidnapping that involves collecting ransom is one of the easiest crimes to eradicate; thats why its no longer possible in more organized countries.
Kidnappers rely on phone calls ( very easy to trace)
Kidnappers do it to collect ransom (very easy to trace).
Kidnappers need a place to lodge for days and weeks to keep their hostages ( they become sitting ducks)
Kidnappers need food to feed their " guests ( easy to monitor).

Intelligence gathering is much more important than weapons and vechicles and personnel. Its the key to any successful security operation.

I dont know who advises our leaders.

If what I know about South West is what they are, they will betray themselves. Already, three governors were absent during the launching of the outfit
