After five months and 10 days that the public universities have been shut due to the strike by the Academic Staff of Union of Universities, the Federal Government and the universities lecturers on Wednesday finally resolved to sign the 2013 Agreement. This is the review of the FGN-ASUU 2012 Memorandum of Understanding reached on the 2009 Agreement. Both parties, however, refused to give details of the agreement to journalists who witnessed the g of the agreement. The meeting was almost aborted by the union but for the prompt intervention of some stakeholders. ASUU had on Tuesday vowed not to attend the meeting because there was no commitment and proper invitation from the government. The union had demanded the proof of payment of the N200bn universities infrastructure fund, non-victimisation clause, review of the Agreement in 2014 and that a representative of government, preferably the Attorney-General of the Federation sign the agreement as conditions to call-off the strike which began on July 1. Our correspondent, however, gathered that the union got three of its demands while it relinquished one to the government. http://www.punchng.com/news/at-last-fg-ASUU-sign-agreement-to-end-strike/ |

After successfully wasting the students' time they finally come to an agreement? Do they know the economic implications of the strike on the students...Some students (like me)were 4 weeks away from final exams before the strike, now they wasted almost 6 months of such student's academic life over an agreement they could've signed earlier...Hmmmmmm...I think we need to start suing the government, bodies and organisations in this country whom we feel are trampling on our right. By the way, I think the strike is a breach of contract on the part of the schools because once a student pays his tuition fees,he enters into a contract of performance with the school and as such, the school should see to it that such student gets the value for his money within the expected time frame of the contract.... But alas! we are in Nigeria where nothing works......As for the fg saying the strike is politically motivated, Yes it is but the fg could've nipped it in the bud by making sure it was resolved earlier. LAST BULLET: in saner countries, Jonathan will never win even an ordinary local councillors election again for the single fact of heading a government under whose istration the education sector was crippled for almost half a year, but this is Nigeria where nothing works the way it should..Welcome to the jungle! 8 Likes |

I really feel your pain, but just imagine that after your 6 months vacation, you would then have to take another year off, for the NYSC. During that year you may be sent to a village to teach something you yourself haven't fully mastered, and ofcourse you are not a certified teacher, neither do you have a teaching license. Still you will be called upon to take this one year out of your life, away from the path of your career, just so that we can learn to get along. Welcome to the Jungle. |

ASUU has lost its pedigree for allowing innocent student to bear the burden of this strike while their children are all in private universities
