The Federal Government of Nigeria plans to sell a large estate recovered from Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to low and middle-income citizens.

The property consists of 753 houses covering more than 150,000 square metres and was successfully retrieved by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in December 2024.

This is the largest single asset recovery ever achieved from the EFCC’s founding in 2003.

On Tuesday 20 May 2025, EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede officially handed over the 753-house estate to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

While speaking with journalists, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Housing, Badamasi Haiba, said the government will ensure ordinary citizens benefit from the sale, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Low/middle income earners indeed.

Pretty sure the houses have been shared among these "low/middle" income earners with each getting at least 20 units.

This announcement is just for the records against the future due to impermanence nature of power.

Abeg getat.

@ how much per unit?

If the amount is reasonable, one can buy and lease it out

Dey play.
You really think the houses will be sold to low/middle income earners?

I can assure you the houses have been shared among these "low/middle" income earners.

I can also assure you the least these low/middle income earners will get is 5 units each.

I understand how things work in this country.

Read in between the lines. There are some elements of literature in the comment. Take special note of the inverted commas. Low/middle in quote.

The best option is for them to sell the property at the market price. If each building worth #100m, it should be sold at #100m.

It will be so unfair if they sell it to their family and friends below the market price

Dey play.

You think they will pay even a dime?

Yes, those houses will certainly find their ways into the hands of average earners, but they will have to buy them from the "big men" and at a highly competitive prices.

The "big men" will get it almost free or at most ridiculously low auction prices.

Why don't they rent it and generate yearly revenue instead of selling to strangers they might not even been transparent about.

This will bring continuous revenue to the government.

Low income earners would introduce corruption

There would get a chance you can rig the list of low income earners buy it n resale

But if u sale at fair market price.. U can't resale so no point to rig the list
