If your great grandfather, grandfather or even father owned any of these two iconic rides, then you would've understood what class or prestige means.

The V boot as was fondly called wasn't a plaything for peasants. It wasn't one of those properties you could afford just because your wishes were tall.

The 504 on the other hand, was not to be taken for granted. Men didn't acquire these rides for buying sake. They meant top luxury to them. They were to them what top SUVs are to ‘big’ men today.

Cars like Rolls Royce, Cadillac Escalade, and Chrysler did exist but were not as handy as the V boot and 504.

The 504 particularly was for government officials before degenerating to service chiefs and other notable traditional rulers before finally getting to some School Principals and head Teachers. LPeople in other occupational sectors could also afford one.

The Mercedes Benz, wether V boot or Flat boot was powerful and way classier. It was for men who would freely spend money without peering at their briefcases. Men who enjoyed money without nursing fears or regrets.

Many men who doubled as business tycoons and politicians were in this league. It was not a car for a man who preyed on monthly stipends. It wasn't for boys who counted their goods in cartons either. The V Boot only degenerated to this class of men when it was slightly past its glory. When newer and prettier ones had been birthed for the rich.

It's however, sad to know that that these two pioneer cars are way more reliable and stronger than their younger ones. The younger ones can't bear the degree of punishments these oldies took. These two in the picture are die-hards, old soldiers! Even till today, they still weigh their own pride and repute.

grin I cruised my dad's Peugeot 504 car like mad those day. The car dey consume fuel but e dey move. The official car of government officials back then.

I IBB even used it in Dodan Barracks those days and shared same to army officers especially those who died on board the Hercules C-130 turbo prop transporter plane that crashed in the Ejigbo canal enroute Kaduna on 26 September, 1992.

I have never tried my hands on the Mercedes-Benz V-Boot despite all the fame and frenzy that was associated with it back in its hey days. cc: nlfpmod

I grew up enjoying my mum's baby Benz as it was called. Can still picture the silver piece of pride and the look on mum's face when we go to church in it every Sunday. Mum sold it to pay my eldest sister uni school fees 2004 and got a ascona opel as car was a necessity for her back then. The ascona showed her shege before she went for starlet. Good ol days

God bless my mum and first wife.

The starlet na Fi ojo pa oloore. I detest it even till now. Funny enough, mum used it for years without mechanic visitation before she upgraded.

Ahahaha. You want a Beetle ? It's iconic but don't want it as much as a 504.

You will find it harder to see it. 504s are more readily available. I have only seek one VW Beetle. The owner seriously pimped it.

Seen a Volkswagen Santana too. 1984 model.

I saw a beetle somewhere in ososami. Just the body is remaining. I want it but not that bad to buying a money pit. The Volkswagen Santana is quite a common see, I no just rate am at all. I crave that beetle. A fair conditioned one I can tune up to my taste and just gallivate around Ibadan with once in a blue moon.

I definitely love me a vintage. Usually a money guzzler for sure.

Saw just the shell for a Toyota Crown in the North. Was told it was owned by Bayero family. Someone had offered 5 million and refused... this was 2 years ago with dollar around 400+ ooo.

The V-boots, the flat boots, the 504s, the 505 evolutions, the Nissan Pathfinders, the VW Beetles, etc now belong to relics. I when Camry 2.2 was the master. How time flies! This is a warning message to everyone. The Lexus ES, RX, Mercedes GLK etc that are driving many people to crime will soon become obsolete. Invest your youthful days into more satisfying and fulfilling endeavors

The only thing constant in life is change, who knows the cars that would be ruling Nigerian roads in the next 30 - 40 years?

The 504 wagon was used by banks then along with the Isuzu tiger. Usually dark blue with tinted windows and high suspensions.

There was this Rrrrr sound peculiar to the 504 engine. Sadly it's door handles always broke easily. The 505 evolution too was sick back them.

The peculiarity about the V-boot was the checkered seat, the single wiper blade, loud radiator fan and that bounce when you're on the highway.

Reminiscent of the military era. Black and green painted Peugeot 504, GL and SR with tinted glass and telecommunications antenna dangling at the trunk side. My school principal drove a 505 evolution, brand new which he bought with his own money. Our principal's lodge was like an oyinbo quarters. The VP was Indian. A public secondary school for that matter oo

I still doubt those saying our military were reckless in spending and unpatriotic weren't saying so, in order to steal our commonwealth. Those criticising them back in the days have slapped the faces of the masses today and embezzled so much. One of them is the richest politician in africa today, owning 3 private jets and uncountable assets. He rode a bugatti to the airport recently to catch a presidential jet to malabo while the operator of radio kudirat, a former governor owns one of the most expensive private universities in africa in Ghana, while those defending them are wallowing in penury. Mumu people.

Those who have been japaing should have sued these greedy politicians in the Hague for crime against humanity. Japa is never a solution. How can a few greedy Nigerians chase you away from your land due to their inept rule and you'd accept, just like that?
