it doesnt matter state, in every state in Nigeria there is a Band A for special orders, technically in every state there are areas with 20hrs light

If you have an idea of kind of People that demand and order for BAND A, you won't be fixated on common man

I thought you had the facts, but I didn't know you were just making wild claims and insinuations.
lexy2014: 8:05am On Apr 04, 2024
what have they been using their huge profits for?

I used to be amongst the strong critics of these technocrats. I was opprtuned to be in one meeting with one of the DGs, he opened up his Organisation's problems openly for us to crack a better solution... Omo... Our brain almost shutdown. From that day, I no dey chuck mouth anyhow on Government affairs... Believe it or not, we have the best hands in some MDAs.
Let's not use Government's lackluster spendings and policy implementation wahala to paint all technocrats black.

dude the guy said "Government is owing the Gencos $1.2bn and the Discos 1.3tr Naira".

how does your response address the issue he raised?

This only affects band A customers who can pay because it is still cheaper than running generators. Majority of the masses are not affected. What should be done is holding these discos to so they can deliver more power to homes and businesses.

even if it affects them, are they not human beings?

why should they be punished for government incompetence?

are the discos not making profits? what are they doing with the profits that you think the increase is justified?

do you think that they will stop with the so called Band A?

for instance, If you see residential Nepa bill carrying estimated billing of #1m ... if i ask you to take a wide guess of area it might be, where you go call

Sometimes common sense + discretion is enough

This argument is Arrant Nonsense and a Slap on the Populace!
It's high time we ask our Leaders to s for even the ones they are having in their hands!
• How Much do DISCOS Collect as Revenue Per Month?
• How much do Each DISCOS collect per Year and How do they Spend it?
• How much of the Transformer(s) do you Purchase and Distributed and how much of the Pre-paid Meters - have you Purchased and Distributed?
• How much have you received on the Pre - paid Meters by each DISCOS.
You will observed that - they can't faithfully answer those questions because of Corruption!
The Power Minister, who also brought out Power -bank to charge in our presence - have been drawing this narrative since he came, with the worst performance,so far!
He came from the Banking background and is he saying that you priced a bad Products by increasing the Price,in other to sell it?
Since NEPA metamorphosed into different DISCOS,what have been there Performance?
He recently went to Ikorodu -and instead of holding Conference with the Public,to know how Ikeja DISCOS have been performing,he rather chose to talk to Egbin Management that Ikorodu People, have not been enjoying Stable Lights - since the same Minister told Nigerians that ' Subsidies On Light is going to be withdrawn '.
1- How much have you collected on Oil Subsidies?
2- Can we see the Monthly Revenue Collection on the Oil Subsidies?
3- How much have you spent on the Refineries?
4- Do we have any Functional Refineries working now, after so much Promises by NNPC?
You don't use illegal means of collecting Revenue to a drowning equipment, where those running it are very Corrupt, for Corruption has finished both GENCO and DISCOS.
For the Unions,Nigerians don't Trust them, for they are only after their Monthly Dues are threatened,as they took are very Corrupt?
I blame GEJ - who was playing Politics by choosing those who failed in Govt and their Footsoldiers to buy the DISCOS because,he was thinking of coming back to govt - that is lack of Patriotism we are talking about!
That is why they all sidelines the General Electric and other Professionals in Power Production -at the onset!
Now ,here we are,as nothing is working in this Power Sector,in 21St Century!
Shame to all those that brought Nigeria down, including Past Govts!

Why should price of goods increase because they increase electricity tariff for Band A customers?
Band A consist mostly Industrial/company situated areas, production lines, etc so there is likely an increase in operational cost which will lead to increase in prices of goods and services.
And also it's good to note that some band A guys don't even see up to 8hrs per day.

Only in Nigeria will service providers increase price of service they abysmally render so they can get more funds to render better services.

Same way they said if we remove petrol subsidy there will be more money to go round. The reverse is the case.

Once I'm able to install my solar setup, I'll go completely off the grid.
me if you want install your solar system.
I dey mass produce pure sine wave with mppt controllers

How many times are this electricity agency going to increase electricity tariff in a third world country? These politicians keep comparing Nigeria with Europe that have a good standard of living far better than Nigeria.
Slyprof: 8:19am On Apr 04, 2024
Is it not only GENCOS that needs gas to power their plants, what does distribution of power have to do with gas. DISCOS don't need gas
kaludestiny10(m): 8:21am On Apr 04, 2024
Lol, you truly funny with your assertions or assumptions. Do you know that there are communities in your so called government rejected areas that are consuming the same electricity power with the Band A customers. In life, don't always assume that your opinion on certain issues is perfect while other people opinions are wrong.
Thank you Bill Gate of Nigeria and enjoy the rest of your day.

Nigerians just read to react, the recent hike in tariff is for customer on BAND A not everybody
its not a matter of prepaid meter vs post paid consumers, the hike is exclusive to those BAND A, funnily those on band A are yet to react na most of us wey dey stay Govt rejected area dey Vex and react

Yes, it is a Natural Resource, but you need Investment to extract it, not faith.

So why doesn't NERC take advantage of the gas wastage going on. The extraction cost is paid for through another related process already, yet there's gross unwillingness to stop gas flaring.

Don't you see how government rather burdens it's citizenry so that a few benefactors cum capitalist enjoy, than to invests the nations wealth for more prosperity, just look at Norway, why are clear logical steps to improvements rocket science in this clime, why?

The decision to raise electricity tariffs to enable Discos to pay for gas and maintain machines could burden consumers with higher costs, impacting households and businesses. This move may be perceived as heartless due to its potential negative effects on people's finances and livelihoods.

NO!
You are not getting the reasons for this resistance!
The Crux of the matter is the Monumental Corruption in the Power Sector called DISCOS and Gemco - from those carrying ladders to the Supervisors in their Offices, are very Corrupt!
•Before you Increase Prices, how is the Product you are selling to the Masses- from NEPA to PHCN to DISCOS - nothing has changed but are Corruption entity and more of Darkness?
Don't forget that Las Vegas and other Cities in US are called City of Lights,as no darkness must be recorded in 365- Days!
• How much are the Individuals DISCOS making - Monthly and Yearly ?
• Can we see the s and what is it they are hiding from the Public?
• Till today, the Minister of Power- Adelabu-,has not given any cogent reasons, for the so called ' removal of Subsidies on Electricity'
-So no matter how much Revenue made, they will steal it!
-Secondly, what Nigerians are saying is- put the DISCOS in Proper shape,as you don't Sell a Bad Product by Increasing the Prices - is not done anywhere in the World, except in Nigeria!
It seems Tinubu-is listening to lies by the Power Minister and those in Power Sector-- GENCO and DISCOS alike and is going to make this govt more unpopular,as you are forcing so many things on Nigeria.
This can only be a Welfare Economy, design by World Bank and IMF - nothing more because the Masses are Suffering, except the Executives - Federal and States and their Legislatures - that are smiling to the Bank!

Even the bible says when the sinners is being punished the innocents sef dey sufferth,
No doubt there might be such cases, but trust me the percentage is very small n insignificant.
For instance, there is an estate in my Area exclusive for the Rich, they applied for Band B that guarantees 16hrs light and they also make it exclusive to that estate alone cheesy our eye dey see light but e no reach us.

Do you know, no matter the amount Nepa reduce tariff to there are people that won't still be able to afford it but the % will be small & insignificant thats what matters
No policy can favour ALL, since the news broke out most of us vexing & reacting are on Banky W undecided

Frankly speaking, government should go further and allow the companies charge what they want. This was what revolutionized the the telecoms industry and the same would occur in the power sector as well.
The telecoms sector is starkly different from the power sector. With GSM, one could easily drop one sim card and insert another one in his phone. This made competition among the operators very fair. Please tell me how it would be possible to change discos in the power sector to spark competition.

They said the same thing during Buhari and increased tariffs about three times I think. Yet no improvement anywhere. The solution to our power problem is simple. Meter everyone! These guys are making killing from estimated billing. Free monies that they're not willing to let go.

NB: USD was about N216 at the time.

Soon you will start asking why are prices of goods not coming down. I'm sure you will forget what you said today

These are private companies, but the government for years have not allowed them to charge what they want.

THe new price wont affect all of us, only those living in Band A areas ie, those enjoying 20 hours light currently. My office is there.

According to NERC, only band A consumer will be affected, this is a pure lies. All electricity consumer will taste this bitter pills.
It is unfortunate that people are afraid to come out en mass to unvalidate this oppression.
