Fear enveloped the Secretariat of Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State following the take over of an office belonging to a senior official of the Council by a lunatic.

Our correspondent gathered that the mad man gained entrance into the premises, cashing in on security lapses and broke into three offices and carted away files before he finally converted one of the offices to his own.

An eye witness , a member of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akwa Ibom chapter, who would not want his name in print, explained that “the mentally deranged man was muttering something concerning Governor Akpabio as having sent him to take over the Council following widespread allegations of fraud, indolence and other malpractices leveled against the council.”

The witness, an employee of the Abak Local Government Council, who prayed that his file should not be part of those seized by the mad man, attributed the incident to what he described as “porous security system at the secretariat”, even as he blamed security officials on duty for indolence and laziness.

“How can a mad man through the gate in the daytime and broke into people’s offices without being detected until he vandalized offices and settled down in one?”, he queried.

Efforts to speak with the council chairman, Hon. Joseph Ikpaisong, were abortive, but another staffer of the council said it took the intervention of regular police to overpower the lunatic before workers’ files could be retrieved.

That's no mad man. Probably walked in dressed like a secretariat staff, and changed into his mad man attire somewhere in the premises. He's on some kind of mission.
